Painting FMIC???

Hey guys so I've been looking for a FMIC for awhile although I do not have much money to play around with. Figured I would try out the Godspeed V Mount for 140 shipped its got to be better than stock right?

Ive browsed a little bit but havent found a definite answer on what is the best paint to use on the intercooler without disrupting the air flow. I would much rather have it look a little more pleasing like the STETT fmic.

Any ideas?

what is your horsepower goal? when it comes down to it, you get what you pay for....its all about what the core looks like. fyi the stock intercooler isn't so bad depending on where your trying to go with your car.

Unless you drive your car hard FMIC won't do much for you. Save you your money and buy a meth kit first if you don't already have one. My intake temp goes from 30c to over 60c without meth on a 4th gear pull from 2000 rpm to 7000 rpm. With meth it drops to 20c around 3000 rpm and stays at 20c all the way to 7000 rpm. Good luck.

I disagree with what has been said on this thread so far. The stock IC is trash. I run the CXRacing IC and it has been working great for me in 100 degree Texas weather. I know Godspeed has a couple of different cores. If its the one that CXR uses, it will do great. Of course, the trade off is that you'll have to get your own hoses, etc. But I got a great FMIC for about 350.00 including the 40.00 I spent to get a welder to fab tabs to the IC.

i dont take it to road courses, but drag strip every now and then. From what Ive heard fmic will help a lot on daily driving and a few WOT runs. I have a meth kit just not running it, would rather do bolt ons than meth

Painting could potentially block the fins. Save up and get a quality FMIC that is already anodized. I have an anodized black IC from ER.

Oh and dont listen to the idiot who says the are a waste. They obviously don't have one or drive in a warm climate.....meth only lowers IATs when it's spraying. FMIC is all the time.

Meth is the lowest cost solution for him to make the most power for the least amount of money. Meth cools the intake and also adds octane thus allowing you to increase the timing and produce more power. My car put down 400 rwhp with the stock FMIC and the same with a HPF FMIC on the dyno jet. Understand that a FMIC would make a big differance if you weren't spaying meth at the end of a 1/4 mile run. But for the most part if this is a daily driver the guy is only going to want to max his HP from stop light to stop light. FMIC is not going to do that like a meth kit will.

this is about painting, not an argument of power gains

So if he's just driving around, or doing spirited driving, there's no air flow, right?

True, but if you are short on cash and want power save your money on paint and a FMIC and go with meth! Have fun painting because as long as you don't spray so much that it blocks the core paint away.

That's what I thought. Thanks for going around the question!

OP, take this advice.

You want to anodize it. Not paint it. Paint will act like an insulator, disrupting heat transfer.

well i ordered it, for 140 it wont hurt the wallet too bad and if it is bad can always go back stock, btw sorry i didnt make myself very clear about the paint, i dont want to paint the whole IC, i would just like to paint some words on it like STETT has on theres or the AMS

sorry for the miscommunication, i was thinking that just a light coat wouldnt make that big of a difference

Not here to flame.. but stenciling "Stett" on a Godspeed IC is pretty lame.

Just my opinion.. its your car.

im not going to paint stett or bmw or ams on it...am i the only person that thinks a plain IC looks boring...i think it would be cool to put N54 on the front of it
