Procede or turbo tuner with 87 octane gas
Will any of these tuning solutions worth with 87 octane gas? I'm assuming the performance won't be as great, but I don't plan on using over 87 octane as its just too expensive.

is this for real?
you spend 45K on a car and squinch on gas? 1. 87 octane vs 91 octane will save you about 250.00 a year in gas. Is that much savings worth it? 2. the lower octane gas also has less detergent, which means more carbon build-up in your engine 3. carbon build-up will obviate any gains form the above mentioned tuning tools which you are willing to spend 450.00 - 1300.00 for. 4. I'm sure Vishnu does not make a map for 87 octane. I'm confused. Really. Re-think the car if 20 cents a gallon is gonna ruin you.

The car won't even run properly in stock form with 87. 89 is the bare minimum and 91 is "highly recommended".

And not what I'm advocating. Just trying to educate a new member who has not yet learned to truly appreciate the German engineering marvel that is

ya there's no reason for anybody to get jiggety with the original question, gas prices are nuts right now. BMW's should get premium gas however. I believe they even tell ya that in the owners manual. I'm in WA state, and I've been looking all over the place for 97 octane, just to show you how anal I am about it. It's not worth risking the performance, and the longevity of your car by using 87 octane.

100,000 miles or if he averages 12,000 miles per year he will save enough to pay for the mod in a mere 8.3 years. Good idea bro:rocks: |

Hey, I sent him over here from Shiv's forums. I'm somewhat embarrassed by your reception. I guess I should tell others in the future to show up only if they have the hide of an elephant.

With 87 octane you might or will cause some engine driveability/warranty issues. BMW put out a new bulletin in how to determine fuel quality inside the vehicle via the DME (engine ECU). If the number is out out range then the customer will be advised to use premium grade fuel.
Symptoms/complaints of low grade fuel on a BMW that requires premium fuel are low power output and hesitation. |
