I Just Blew A Fuse!

So I went to use my tire pump powered from my sig lighter for the first time. It worked when I tested it sitting in the car. So I stepped out and hooked it up to my tire and nothing happened. I tried it in the power plug in my armrest and again nothing. I don't think it is the pump since my sig lighter doesn't work (although I must admit I have never used it). Has anyone else had this problem? Manual says not to change the fuses yourself. I've always done it myself, but with the electronics in this car I am hesitant. Nevertheless, where are they so I can check them anyway?

Ignition has to be on..

If you blew a fuse, they're behind the glove compartment. Take everything out of the glove box. The back panel has two screws which you turn 90 degrees and then remove. The back panel comes off, and the fuse box is exposed..

Thanks. I did have the ignition on. I'll check the fuse. BMW manual says Max is 200 watts. The pump I was using is rated at 15 amps. 15a x 12v = 180w. That is alot but it should not have blown the fuse.

I actually blew that fuse as well one of the first times I used my pump. I replaced it and haven't blown it since..

BMW must use cheap fuses or something..

Speaking of air pump, dude, your suggestion on the cyclone pumps is great and economical too. Been using it alot. Have not blown any fuses yet (knock on wood).

Thanks.

That's awesome. Glad you're enjoying it, I was wondering how that was working for you. Just some advice, once or twice it hasn't started. You could tell the motor wanted to turn, but there was too much pressure to get started or something. I took off the quick release hose from the pump, turned the pump on (it turned on no problems), and then put the hose back on the quick release nozzle. Worked perfectly.. I've been wanting to let you know that in case you ran into that.. But other than that once or twice, mine's been running like a champ too (knock on wood).. Glad it's working out, thanks for the feedback..

No need to knock on wood about the fuses, fuses are cheap. The hardest part is finding a neighbor with a kid who has arms small enough to fit through the glovebox to get to the fuse box..

So, the pinguin has some car troubles and took his BMW 335i coupe to the Arctic Auto Stop.

While the mechanic was checking on the car, the pinguin walked across the street to the Polar Ice Cream store for some ice cream.

A few minutes later, he returned to the shop to hear the verdict. The mechanic looked at him seriously and said:

"It looks like you blew a seal."

The pinguin, offended, replied:

"No sir, I just had some ice cream..."

i can use my motorola and ipod charger at the same time no problem, but the samsung by itself.... forget about it....

i know where the fuses are, i wanted to change it on my own, but on the card that explains which fuses are which, it doesnt clearly mark which is for the cigarette lighters....

could someone tell me which it is??? (by the number on the fuse chart)

Number 30. If you post a picture of it, I'll circle it in red. I had a picture of the fuse card but imageshack isn't showing it anymore.. Josh

I have not had this happen on on phone charger or i-pod device but i have not tried an air pump either. I did blow a fuse o my old car with an air pump. Who knows maybe it draws too much power. Try another air pump if you anyone who has one.
