BMW N54 335i HPF CLUTCH INSTALLATION TECH VIDEO by HorsepowerFreaks
We often do tech videos to help the community with installations for various parts. The GT1 tool and All Data are helpful for many types of installs but don't often have enough information to help you through the entire installation. This is especially true for late model vehicles.
So here's a video we put together that will help any backyard mechanic swap out their clutch in a BMW 135i, 335i and even the 535i. Chris. Last edited by HPF Chris; 10-20-2011 at 04:49 PM.. |

This is one installation I would rather leave to a shop because doing it on ramps seems like a nightmare from hell....I have no idea how FormerBoostedIS did this with ramps...After watching the video I even have more RESPECT to FBIS!!

We found out after trying two of the new HPF 135i/335i clutches in Tim's car that the fulcrum in the pressure plates were not machined correctly causing the clutch to engage too close to the floor. Our manufacturer determined this today and will be overnighting us another one with the pressure plate machined correctly. We will have a new clutch to test in Tim's car on Friday. Thanks Tim for being so patient with us. We will get this dialed. Thanks. Chris. |

Longitudal clutch jobs are cake compared to a transverse with a transfer case ie: the evo. Thanks for the vid! I'm sure itll come VERY handy for a future install

OMG, that looks terrible to DIY! How much harder is it on an XI?

Tim's car is now completed. The HPF clutch now engages at the correct pedal height. There was an error in the machining process on the fulcrum of the pressure plate in the initial design which affected both of the prior installations. The driveability is now perfect along with the correct engagement height. I'll post up some videos shortly.

That being said, its a pretty straightforward clutch job.....and I dont see why it would be that difficult on jackstands. I've done clutch jobs on 330s, S60R's, Evos, STi's, 300ZX's, 350Z's, Supras, RX7's, Mustangs, Camaro's, and many more - all on jackstands. With the right set of tools, a mindset for safety, and some simple research before hand - jobs like these are not difficult at all The biggest pain in a clutch job is always ensuring the clutch alignment on install is proper, because getting that transmission wrastled' into place when the input shaft isn't jiving with the clutch disc can be real sunofa'
