Alaska actually , car runs fine on 90 octane. It's all we got! Is there any tunes out there for 91 octane that is adaptive? So it can readjust to the crappier fuel we have?

I have noticed by putting 91 octane in my car that the car still runs rich...im sure 90 octane isn't going to mess up the vehicle.

How about with a tune? Aren't they optimized for a specific octane?

Cobb's "drive" map might work, it's tuned for crappy 91 octane Cali gas. You should call them and ask.

Octane has nothing to do with the "amount" of fuel injected, but it's resistance to knock

i was speaking in terms of boost...doesn't a higher amount of octane let you run more boost? on my evo I was running 24psi on 93 octane on E85 i was running 35 psi

tuning the car will definately make it run better and safer...get a conservative tune and you will be good to go.

OP, you might be OK with any tune since the octane limit is really to prevent knock. part of the equation that will produce knock is going to be IATs. In Alaska, IATs are going to be on average lower than would be seen in the rest of north america.
Additionally, a tune that you can adjust max boost and log timing would also be useful. This way you can get an idea of where you stand running on the gas you have available and back off boost as needed. Good luck, even being limited to 91oct isn't fun

Yes, higher octane theoretically means you can run higher boost. But it doesnt mean it will be "richer." 12:1AFR at 35psi is more fuel than 12:1AFR at 10psi, but it's still the same as the AFR is concerned.

Thanks for the info everyone. Right now I'm weighing my options. Since I have warranty until 2015, I probably will only be running a tune w/ no meth unfortunately. So Cobb has a 91 file?

We have vendors here that supply torco, but I don't really know much about them. How reliable are octane boosters?

don't know much about the reliability of it but all it's going to do is raise your octane count to maybe 92/93 so if anything it may help a little.

I've used it a couple time in my old car when stations wouldn't have the right octane and I had zero problems.

35psi on E85...hopefully not on stock turbo as that is out of its efficiency range.
