Custom Stealth sub and amp *pics*
Here is my stealth box.
The rockford amp just powers the alpine sub. Rockford amp is connected to my stock amp (through bass wires) sounds great but the stock subs under the seats sound like shit once the volume is up loud enough. Problem: How do i solve this fart sounding bass while maintaining my setup? lets say i replace stock subs with SWS earthquakes. Then power these two SWS and trunk alpine sub with the mono rockford amp. Then replace stock amp with nice aftermarket 4channel amp. Is this possible? (the stock amp is connected to the 2 underseat subs through WIRES that are split to the rockford amp ) |

sounds like the problem your having is the gains on your sub amp. turn the sub amps gains all the way down and your factory system all the way up on the head unit. then adjust your gains from there. i had the same problem on my system so i turned the bass all the way down on the factory head unit and set the bass amp accordingly. checkout my setup on page 2 (page 3 for the old setup) http://www.cardomain.com/ride/390699...drive-sedan-4d

The under seats and your sub are cancelling each other because they are playing the same frequencies.
What's your low pass for the trunk sub set at? Try setting it around 65 hz. That will get rid of most of the mudiness but it will still be there a bit since the underseats play down to around 40-30hz. The underseats should really be bandpassed. |

What is so "stealthy" about your install anyway?
Like others have suggested, you likely are getting cancellation from the frequencies coming form the sub and from under the seats. But the fart sound is likely distortion from the underseat woofers. Turn the gain on the sub amp up, and any bass boost on the HU down. If they continue making noise, consider the fact that they may be blown.

Thank you everyone for your feedback!
bimmerfrerak and shim! : this was a custom made box, i ordered from Waterloo, Ontario. It was constructed by some genius highschool kid, who only charged 300$ for it! I tipped him heavily for the box. I unfortunately live in Alberta now and I have lost contact of the audio shop (these pictures are about 3 years old). I try to look for it for you guys. jwise36,*********, kaigoss69: Thanks for the input, I have decided to just disconnect the underseat subs since the subs have conflicting waves. BTW, jwise36 i have never seen larger subs in a bmw before! I also prefer the bass strong enough to "feel" kaigoss69, i'm not quite sure of the exact definition of "stealthy" please pardon me. I thought perhaps it might be called "Stealth" since the box blended in with the trunk. I have not seen many "stealth" setups so i wouldn't doubt it if i was wrong. Quote:
I've decided to replace my stock amp with: (4 channel amp) PowerBass Xtreme XAX-4160FD and replace my front and rear speakers with: (4 inch component speakers x2) Polk Audio db401 they are in the mail right now. Based on pictures, these component speakers dont seem to fit the front door mounting "ring". I have contacted 808guy for the custom speaker ring, but I would like to know if there were any other options? Last edited by IronReda; 10-26-2011 at 12:37 AM.. |
