Where are pics of non i-drive dash?
Has anyone seen pics of what the new dash/interior will look like without i-drive? Or is i-drive now standard with the F30?

I read today the German price and option list. iDrive is standard now. You get a 6,5 inch monitor and a CD MP3 Radio Professional with 6 speakers. In the USA it won't be worse for sure.
I think it's nice I didn't like the empty dashboard of E9X without navigation screen. |

It is unfortunately fixed.
In E90 it looked quite solid. Now many don't know if it's retractable or not. Maybe there is a solution in this simplicity... |

That dash with i-drive screen popping out is fugly.
Guess I'll have to see it in person cause the pics aren't doing it any favors. Hopefully BMW doesn't add an extra $2500 to the f30 price for i-drive being standard. |

Just go to your local dealer and check out the new 6 because it'll basically look like it looks in the 6.

I can't believe BMW designers decided to have a fixed screen there without the option of hiding it. That would be quite annoying everytime you look to the right and seeing that screen. Its tacky and annoying at the same time. I wonder which idiot in the design room decided for that. What a bad move. Some people actually like the clean dash and not having to look at a cheap screen. I cant believe it, looks like a freakin cheap asian dash

I like the screen and the lack of a bulky hood for it. Seems cleaner and certainly more 21st century. It keeps the dash behind and around it low in profile.
The interior seems to be a step up overall. I am remiss that the grab handle to close the driver's door is like the current 1er and not like the E90. Also, sad to see the gas struts and hinges gone from the trunk. Simpler and cheaper I know. But not better. Any word on more rear shoulder room? I know there's a touch more rear legroom and headroom, but another inch of rear shoulder room would help out in the two car seat arena.

I'm kinda expecting the negative comments on someting as revolutionary of an interior design like this. I bet it's normal when something really new is introduced.
But IMO, BMW's adoption of a non-retractable but retractable-looking screen is impressive and I'm lovin' it. |

Retractable screens always look like a compromise when they are out. Kind of ugly and tacked on but the upshot is the ability to hide it. I cannot understand making one with all the aesthetic compromises of a pop-up screen yet none of the upsides. This thing is a huge wart in an otherwise nice interior.

It looks much sleeker that way and doesn't look like a cheap add on, like this one does. Why not put the screen where the radio and HVAC is then use the screen interface as the radio readout and control? |

In regards or comparison to what? It looks like a reworked version of my 2003 325i with some of the 2006 A4, especially the speedo/tach cluster. Not that that is a bad thing, but "revolutionary"? No. |
