Thumbs up Please help with ED plans!!

Thanks for the help guys I am taking any suggestions on what to do.

Option 1: Pickup Munich June 4th, Drop off Munich June 18th.

Option 2: Pickup Munich June 4th, Drop off Munich June 11,12 or 13th.

Countries must visit: Germany, Italy and Czech Republic.
Option 2; More practical.

No, just suggestions of where to go.

Never been there, just looking for suggestions. I have vague idea ofcourse, but would like to here from People who been there about where they liked and why, to help me make some choices.

I think it'd be better if you let us know what you're looking to do: sight seeing, driving (twisties), counting countries, etc. With all the countries you've listed, I dont know if it's possible to cover it all in 7 days.

You'd get better response on bimmerfest.com. There's a whole ED forum right there.

Just keep in mind with Option 1, you'll need to purchase the extra insurance because you'd be at 15-days vs. 14-days which is the free insurance period. It's based on a calendar day instead of 24-hr day.

How old are you? I was in both Munich & Prague last year. Both great drinking cities and while Munich obviously had the better beer, I have to give an edge to Prague since you can party 'till the sun comes up!

Smile Thanks for the responses I am 35 young...lol

I am looking at twisties, scenic drive, sight seeing, and partying ofcourse. Drink but not much of a drinker..lol. Not really interested in tarrying countries, have too many on passport already. Takes the novelty out after about 15 IMO. Maybe I am getting older I want to expirience 150MPH over and over for minutes at a time though, so thats why Germany & Italy are a must. I am really leaning towards pick up on the 4th drop off 13th.

here is a report of a bimmerfest member (Rmorin49). He did some sightseeing, driving, partying and such but only in Germany. I guess it's one country down a few more to plan for. hehehe

Day 1: Departed IAD on Lufthansa bound for Munich. Arrived in Munich at 11 am, proceeded directly to the Lufthansa bus for the Nordfriedhof U-Bahn station, cost E10. Bought a U-Bahn ticket for E2.20 and rode to the Freimann stop. Made the short walk to the ED Center, arriving around 12:30. Checked in, ate some food, and was called about 1:30. Bernhard did a fine job going over the car with me, programming my NAV and encouraging me to take pictures. Departed around 3 for MADA, top down and smiling. Filled out the paperwork and then headed for the Renaissance Hotel. Met up with jfulcher and headed downtown for a nice dinner at the Paulaner Bavarian restaurant. Since I had only slept about an hour on the plane I was ready for bed about 9 pm.

Day 2: Got up about 8 am and headed out to Dachau. A very sombering experience but worth the trip to remind us that we can never let this happen again. Headed out on the autobahn toward Wuerzburg to pick up the Romantic Road. Drove down to Garmisch so I could see the Edelweiss Lodge that the US Forces now operate. All of the former hotels have been given back to the Germans. Had a leisurely drive back to Munich, stopping in Weildorf for a nice dinner. Had a message when I arrrived at the hotel form miketx as he had arrived without luggage. Went with him to dinner at a Bavarian restaurant within walking distance of the hotel. Drove the whole time with the top down as the weather was in the mid-70s and sunshine. In bed around 10 pm.

Day 3: Mike and I went to the BMW dealer to check out the cars and progress on the Welt. Then we headed west toward Salzburg on the autobahn, getting off and driving south to Tegernsee. Put the top down and drove the Alpine Road and then north back to Munich, stopping in a small town for dinner and beer.
Said goodbye to Mike as he was picking up his 335 coupe in the morning.

Day 4: Got up very early for the drive to Regensburg for the factory tour at 8:30 am. Had an awesome tour of the entire factory. Saw the 8000 ton press that forms the body panels, robots welding the body together, painting of the car, assembly of the entire car, mating of the body and drivetrain, and final assembly and inspection. All of the 3 series coupes, convertibles, M3, and Individual 3 series are built in Regensburg. They build about 800 -1000 cars per day, Unbelievable! Hit 130 mph on the way back to Munich with the top down as the weather is still in the 70s with sunshine. I can tell you there is considerable wind buffeting at 130 with the top down. Arrived at MADA around 12:30. Turned the car in, made the short walk to bus stop to Unterschliessheim. Caught the S-Bahn to the airport for the trip home. Arrive at IAD at 6:30 pm after a very rough landing.

heres a couple more. the grossglockner high alpine road looks awesome. I'm pretty sure that will be in the plans of the road trip after i take delivery.

A9 leading out of munichen towards nurnburg is prety good for your high speed needs. there are a few parts that have speed limits but a lot of it is 3 lanes and fairly open roads. about a week ago i traveled down A7 from the Bad Windsheim exit to the on ramp of A6 and i think i only droped below 120 once. that was only about 35 km but A7 is really long ( there is less traffic than i have seen on many other autobahns also.

I did Prague last year and it was amazing. I recommend Cesky Krumlov http://www.virtourist.com/europe/krumlov/ which is about two hours south of Prague. If you happen to be going to Vienna, it is on the route to Prague.

Cesky Krumlov, is wonderful many nice small hotels, driveable even as a day trip from Prague. But be careful D1 highway between Prague and Brno, lost of crazy people driving, often speed traps and frequently bad accidents that end up in complete road block.!
