More Power, if possible

Hello everyone.

I am currently driving around in pure stock. I am looking to add more power to my 06 e90. I have read that intake, headers and catback system will add this. I don't want to throw any codes, so I am not looking into deleting anything. What would be the best bang for my buck and still be able to get the most HP out of it?

Headers and o2 sims to cancel the errors. After that, a software tune that is custom for the headers also, will bring some Huge gains for you.

Dont do an intake, instead get some scoops and a drop in K&N filter, and remove the carbon filter in the OEM box.

91 octane and Pulsar plugs also help

Let me know if I can help in any way

Obvious question first: are we talking 325 or 330 here? The answer really dictates which direction would be the best at the outset.

Gavin,
Have you used those plugs? Ive read nothing but horror stories on them. The concept seems cool just curious if youve had first hand experience. Apologies for the thread jacking.

Sick. Was actually looking at replacing plugs soon and sparkplugs.com has them listed at the top as a different category and supposed to be sick. Now I dont know if I should try them or just go with stockers....hmmmm thanks. With just those alone is it more responsive or anything? Obviously on a n/a car I dont expect to feel anything just curious.

When I put them in the first time, I did notice a difference in responsiveness.

They give a better burn on the fuel when it enters the combustion chamber, and have a hotter spark then normal plugs do, they are also great for forced induction applications too, IMO - worth it.

Thanks for the info Gavin, my car is a 330i. As far as headers what is a good one that won't put a hole in the bank account? Also, Catback system won't do anything? Are you local? I'm in NY. I wouldn't know where to even go for tuning.

They have ECU reflash for this car? I used to have an Acura TSX and once i did this mod, it gained a lot and definitely noticed the difference. What company does the reflash?

you have a few different choices...

AA - Active Autowerke
OE Tuning
ESS Tuning
BMS Powerbox - this is a piggyback system with a pre-tune built in (good for a better response)
And there are a few more...

Im going to shamelessly plug our own design here...

We have a header solution for under 1000 right now, on a group buy. On a 330, with headers, your looking at pulling 12-15whp and Tq without a tune. That is a major gain.

We also have a tuning partner and installation partner on the east coast, that we can setup for you.

Drop me a PM, and we can get you set up

don't you mean "Pulstar"? What kind of gains did you see? I seen a dyno on some muscle car site that they confirmed 4whp on a 350z V8... have you had the chance to dyno before and after on your bimmer?

Yes actually, When I put them in the e90 i noticed 1whp up from the OEM plugs - which in my book is great. this isn't a V8, and it is not a race motor, so a slight gain from just plugs is a good thing. and they are overall a lot smoother then the OEM plugs (personal opinion) you do notice a difference in the car after installation.

Try them out, its 100$ or so, and they have done well for me, but im just one person and it would be great for others to share their experiences with them as well.

Has any of you bimmer fanatics heard or, better, done a so called "spacer" between the intake manifold and the engine? Something like a larger gasket that increases the volume of air you get into the engine. I'm just asking because my friend just installed on his G35 and gets some 6-8 hp. Does this even exists for the e9x? Please chime back. It appears a simple drop in mod.

They don't make throttle body spacers for N52 (for now). Though the science behind it is there are grooves on this aluminum spacer that directs air in a circular motion, creating increase turbulence. Also, the aluminum dissipates heat better, helping out with less heat transfer from the engine block to the intake tube (you don't want hot air coming in).
They make these for N54 (335i) engines though. 6-8hp isn't that much, it probably translates to ~2whp in the end... which still isn't that bad overall, especially for a little over $100

Um, you dont want "turbulence" anywhere in your intake setup. Thats the same bullshit "science" behind those bogus Tornado infomercial fins you see on late-night tv - about as effective as a perforated condom. I'd like to see some proof of the TB spacers and those scammer Pulstar plugs. Nobody has shown positive, repeatable gains with them.
