Took my 335i in and got a 328i loaner

Well i finally got around to taking my 335 in to get the sunroof fixed. It would not close right because of the anti trap sensor and they gave me a 328i base car with only premium. I have been driving it around for a couple of days and lets just say that i desperately miss my 335. I knew the 328 was going to be slower than the 335 but it just feels dead to me. Anything under 4000rpm just feels real slow, but i must say that the engine is the smoothest engine i have driven. I had a 530i before my 335 with the 255bhp engine and from what i have read the new 328 was supposed to be faster but it does not feel that way. It might have been that this car did not have sport package. Also there were a few times that i tried to push the paddle to down shift but their was nothing there. Overall its a nice car, my sister just got one, but the power difference compared to 335 is really amazing. Does anyone else feel similar?

How about looking at it from my point of view, I took my 325 in for an oil change and got a 328 for a loaner, and I thought the 328 was considerably faster then my car. I can only try and imagine what a 330, let alone a 335 would feel like.

I feel the same exact way. SA made the comment, I bet you're glad you're getting the 335 back. Not knocking the 328, but the power difference is huge.

Thats because it is dead at low RPM. 328 doesn't have the benefit of an FI torque curve. (Or should I say plateau.) Let it rev and it's plenty fast though.

Also 70 hps and 100 pounds/ft additional torque is a big difference. It is a full second faster to 100Km/h (manual tranny). One second is huge as a difference.

I've got a stripper '07 328xi automatic sedan as a loaner for my 335i with the defective fuel pump. My car's been in the shop for 30 days +. The difference between the two is IMMENSE. I'm not trashing the 328. Those that have one are still driving a solid car but the 335 is in a different league altogether.

I agree (and I AM driving a 328-quite happy with it).

Just returned a 328xi since my car was having its summer wheels put on and an oil change performed. I like the car and it handles corners pretty well. A bit squirmy on the smaller tires, but the grip afforded by the AWD was really nice for the take-off. I wouldn't mind driving one of these if I weren't so addicted to acceleration.

How many miles did it have on? Step or MT?

The more I rack up the miles on my 328, the more powerful it gets. It seems like the car needs to be broke in to unleash its full potential. I really like my 328. Of course it is no where near as my E46 performance wise but it is getting pretty peppy the more I drive it.

Or a Freaking Dodge Charger...

Over all though, I'd say the thread is useless.... Observations and comments made in an effort to make someone feel special about their car of choice... Otherwise, cannot for the life of me figure out what the hell the point could possibly be...

The same thing happened to my 325i.... It took a good 18,000 miles before it really loosened up. I guess it's because BMW builds these motors so tight, but I've never noticed any of my past cars go through such a metamorphosis like this one.

I know, I didn't notice the same with my E46 330xi and E46 M3. But I definitely feel the E91 328xiT loosening up the more I drive it.

Just took my e90 M3 for the mirror fix and they gave me the 335 with Proceede loaner... Damn, it is so slow. I knew it was not an M, but man... And the engine is not even close as smooth as my V8...

As I've said in other threads, the 328i was impressive from my standpoint. It's lighter than my xi and being rwd, I felt the push of the engine more. I'm sure it's not faster than 330i, but impressive nonetheless.

That being said, I've also had a 335i as a loaner...
(not much more needs to be said)

I guess I've been going through the same phenomenon. I have almost 24000 miles, and the engine feels more peppy across the rev range compared to maybe the first 10-15k miles or so. It could also just be all in my head.

I kind of agree .

Yes, your 335 is faster than my 328. Congrats...

Are you saying the 328 engine is smoother than the 335 engine?
