What is launch control??

I was doing a little research on the EVO forums and found a few old posts re: Xede launch control (back in early 2004):

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=60528

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthread.php?t=61983

This is what Shiv defined launch control as then:

"LAUNCH CONTROL (beta)
Still playing around with the switching mechanism and underlying logic but it looks like the new version of the firmware will be able to offer launch control/aux rev limit. That is, the user can select the desired launch RPM and simply stand on the throttle with the clutch pushed in. The engine speed will stay at the desired RPM until the clutch is let out. This would be useful for those (like myself) who are troubled during launch due to either bogging or wheelspin. More on this later..."

What is launch control on the procede going to be like, and when can users expect it?

I think that pretty much covers it. It's a two step rev limiter. It will most likely be the same or very similar for any car.

What will be nice is when/if there will be a No lift shift function. Which basically uses the two step to let you keep your foot to the floor and shift. Still have to use the clutch though.

Here is a link to a car using a form of launch control and NLS:

Talking

Terry,

I have sent an email to the team at Race Logic to see how they are progressing with the launch control for the 335. I'll keep you posted as soon as I get a response which should be early AM tomorrow.

Man, that was uncalled for... but funny.

I'm curious what Terry said to incite that response. Oh well, not curious enough to remove him off my ignore list!

this info shows that the XEDE has enough inputs/outputs to implement Launch Control. Its just a matter of time and effort for AA tuning to create this as well.

Maybe, maybe not. That's why I'm asking what launch control actually is. If it's just a soft rev limiter, the xede can do it. If its using the wheel sensors to detect spin and pull out boost, xede probably can't do it.

This Shiv guy always sounds like an ass in all these threads. He might be good at the technical stuff but he needs an attitude adjustment.

If you know the history between the two you won't blame Shiv. Terry is not the easiest fellow to deal with and at times extremely annoying. Talking to the guy is like talking to a wall. He has a reputation now for tax fraud and loving to dig into various products for some bizzare reason and always going out of his way to talk smack on the Procede. Shiv's only human and terry has done a great job getting under his skin. It's not the most professional statement but it's pretty damm funny.

Wow, tax fraud? I plan to pay the sales tax on my out of state purchase just like everyone does when they order parts over the Internet.

It's just a rev limit and the no lift shift stuff worked in conjuntion with it. I heard both good and bad things about it, but it is definitely not like the M3 SMG launch control feature... so don't get your hopes up. The no lift shift stuff is neat but you really have to trust it which most people have a hard time doing. The launch control is just setting a pre-determined rev to launch at everytime... good in an EVO... not really useful in a 335 as you are still getting wheelspin all over the place. Recommendation... leave it alone and learn how to drive your car without assists
