SuperSprint headers review

Hi everyone,
here's a pic of the stock headers vs SuperSprint

As you can see, there's no cat on the SuperSprint, so they flow better.
The headers is straight up bolt-on.

My car is FREAKING loud now, it's much louder than I expected.
To be honest with you, my car is only a lowly 325i but it sounds like a v8.

There's a vibration issue somewhere underneath & the rear.
I will get have the car looked at again tomorrow.

Inspecting the stock headers, there's a rubber vibration damper dwelled on.
So, we'll trace down what causes the vibration & fix it.

Right after installation, we started up the car, the rpm was jumping up & down for a bit. I turned off the AC & it was steady & stable.

After a few min, I gave it a bit of gas. & OMG, it's LOUD!!!
at 4k rpm it sounds like a freaking v8.

Right now, with AC on, the rpm does fluctuate a bit, not a major issue yet, but the vibration bothers me a lot.

At this moment, the car pulls hard at any gear. The sound gets LOUD on the high rpm that I have to back down.
Geez I swear I can easily scare the dogs/cats/kids if I rev it up pass 4k rpm.

The Eisenmann sounds awesome, it has the throaty note. But for now, the vibration kinda interferes & kill the awesomeness of Eisenmann.

I'm sure I'll like it a lot after fixing the vibration.

We'll contact ESS for the tune as they have not developed the tune specifically for my car with SS headers.

Will report back soon.
Cheers,
Dung

I'll get the rattle fixed, then for sure post a sound clip. A friend happened to be in Italy & got me the headers for a good deal.
I havent paid for the installation yet, because we've got to fix the rattle tomorrow, but it wont be significant here.

I never realized how ugly the stock headers were... O_o Those supersprints could use some more modification though, maybe a ceramic coating to minimize Heat Soak...

I'm also trying to get in on this MMW group buy, i bet their's will sound pretty beast

I will make a video as soon as I have the rattle fixed. You guys hang tight!

I'm sure MMW's headers are pretty good since they try to match or beat the competitors.

Cheers,

Your original exhaust manifold is different than on my 08 E92:

Design of my manifold isn’t that bad so I decided to get SS catless midpipe:

I have Remus quad but I’m thinking of getting this SS quad:

i'm sure he'll get the CEL error for the O2 sensors... unless he already has the code-out or something of the sort

that's why I'm running OEM exhaust... anything with headers and aftermarket exhaust is way too loud for comfort.

Nope. The SuperSprint headers give the car no error code/CEL what so ever.
No error code from the get-go of starting up the car. No coding needs to be done.

Today we've successfully traced down what causes the vibration/rattle.
Just like yours, my exhaust doesnt touch any thing.
It's actually the treble sound your center muffler makes.

The problem is the SuperSprint headers have no cats & are free-flow, so they're pumping a stronger pressure than the stock headers & our center muffler can't handle it so it has the tinny/rattling sound.

It's like having a horn & we blow into it, it makes normal sound. Now we use a much stronger pressure to blow the horn, it wont make a normal sound anymore but rather very high pitch or distorted sound.

We came up with a fix is to:
- Re-use the stock center pipes & cut out the center muffler.
- Dwell 2 free-flow mufflers, 1 for each pipe.
- Connect a Y pipe to the rear Eisenmann Race rear muffler.
see pic below:

Results is a much more tolerable loud exhaust sound.

So, my setup now is a SuperSprint headers, stock center pipes with custom mufflers, & Eisenmann Race rear muffler.

The car is still FREAKING LOUD.

I've had 15 miles on this setup & my car sounds like a race car.
At steady cruising speed, it's fine, no big deal.
But when I step on the gas or accelerate hard & when the rpm pass 4k, oh dear, I could scare any living thing around me.

I now attract a lot of attention & I dont think I could live with this loudness.

I will make a sound clip tomorrow & post it up.

If you only have 15 miles on the setup, then you havent reached the point where you need an O2 sim yet, the error will come at 50-100 miles once the ECU learns the new parts.

what kind of a difference will this make with a FULL DUAL exhaust (header-back)? You think i'll have to get a stronger muffler at the mid-pipe somewhere?

I cant speculate much since we have no dyno machine here in VN.

Regarding your 2nd question, on my car & my setup, I have to get more free-flow mufflers than the Eisenmann Race S/R pipes.

Do you have ANY cats on the car now?

I'm interested in the MMW headers, but I don't want the car to be obnoxiously loud. I would run the headers, cat and Dinan cat-back exhaust, which has a resonator. I hate have resonance at cruising speeds.
