E92 335i or wait for 335xi coupe???

Im in a sticky predicament....
I live in Toronto,Canada and I cannot decide if a E92 335i with SNOW TIRES is safe enough as compared to a 335Xi coupe with all seasons or with snow tires too??
I imagine a combination of Xdrive and snow tires is the ultimate in safety but then again, is it safe to assume that 335i with snows will also not slip and slide when it comes to winter??

The other factor is that I love the 18 inch star spoke wheels on the 335i, and I am not so keen on the usual multi spoke rims that come with Xi cars......

Maybe those that have 328i and 328xi can comment on handling with snow tires with and without xdrive.

Go with the 335i with 4 good winter tires, and save the extra cash for the xi- I live in Winterpeg and that's my plan- if my 335 coupe ever arrives!

TireRack has some options, but otherwise, any BMW wheel you like with the snow tire of your choice. Its recommended to stay with narrower wheels and tires, they cut through the snow better.

In addition, you can always buy some used OEM wheels of an E46 3 series, they fit our cars and make excellent snow wheels.

I advise you stay away from the Dealer, they'll hose ya good, but FYI I have priced out 4 17" Nokian winter tires with star spoke wheels at my local Kal Tire, installed for $2,444 CDN. Much cheaper than the Dealer.

Good luck

I love AWD cars, but I sacrificed it because I do not want to wait for it. I need to get a new DD asap.

I drive 335 and in winter even with snow tire, my car couldnt climb a slightly inclined hill. There were little snow on the ground. If you have SUV or any AWD car you should get the RWD but if 335 will be your only car, I advise you to wait till the xi

I went from 2 cars to 1....I went with the Xi ...like the last person said, if the 335 will be your only vehicle and you have to deal with poor road conditions, wait for the Xi...it might save you some heartache later.

My 328xi with snow tires drove through everything every single day of this winter (which was admittedly relatively mild but still managed to throw a lot of people into the ditch or leave them in the garage). I'd imagine the 335xi will be a perfect combination of enhanced traction and power. X-drive does not substitute for snow tires - the combo is unbeatable and X-drive traction is great all year around. You should still get dedicated winter rubber. OTOH, if you can afford to leave your car at home for a few days a year, then a 335i with winter tires should fit the bill.....

I am shocked, I live in probably the most winter-ish city in North America and my E46 with Michelin X-Ice winters goes through anything with loads of traction.

wait for xi ... it's gonna be awesome!!!! ... just make sure u get some all seasons or swap snow tires in winter. The summer RFT's are worthless in the snow even with AWD.
