Is garage having me on? Problems with Voice Command/CCC unit

I need some advice please. First post!

A few months back my iDrive stopped working, taking with it the sat nav display and everything else that works through it (rear parking sensors, radio, sat nav etc).

The fault was the CCC unit, so I had it replaced by my local BMW specialist. Once I received it back all was working fine except the voice command button on the steering wheel and by the iDrive wheel. So I phoned them up and they said this could be related to something else and they would call me back.

Two months later no phone call, so I called them back last week and they asked me to bring the car in. Which I did, took it there on Tuesday and it is still there now.

I was first told that there was a cable connector that had come loose under the carpet, this is why it was not programmed when they installed the CCC unit initially. Can a cable really just unclip itself that is located under the carpet? Surely it would be in a loom/harness with all the other functions buttons on the steering wheel? (all other buttons on steering wheel worked, just not the voice button). Are they lying to me?

I should have got the car back the same day but they are having issues installing the software (apparently!).

What I want to know is do you think they forgot to programme the CCC unit in for the voice command when they first changed the unit? And if this cable connector becoming loose is a complete lie?

I don't want to pay for something that they should have got right in the first place!

There aren't any connectors under the carpet running from the iDrive unit to the iDrive knob. Only 1 wire running from the back of the CCC unit, under the center console trim, to the iDrive knob.

I find it hard to believe that it "came loose." The only way I can see it being a problem if it was cut or tugged on too aggressively.

Not sure exactly how voice command works, but the buttons on the iDrive knob/interface are all on one ribbon cable. So the whole knob wouldn't work....

Thanks, so they telling a pack of lies. I was so sure they must have missed it out on the reprogramme of the new CCC unit.

They are having problems with the software now as well.

Really appreciate your very quick answer.

No problem.

And to add, the connection at the iDrive knob (in my car at least) is on a 180 degree angle. The opening of the connector on the base of the knob is facing the rear of the car. So The cable is plugged in, then folded over and brought back to the front of the car, to the back of the CCC unit.

And the cables going into the CCC unit are on one 1 main harness. 2 connections for antennas (again may differ for your car), and another plug for I believe SAT....could also be for the TCU module.

The connections on the back of my CCC unit sound very similar to yours (I had it out before the initial replacement).

As there is two voice command buttons, one in centre console and the other on the steering wheel if one wire connector had come loose surely the other button would still work.

Called them this morning, still not fixed.

It will be a coding problem. The wiring thing is just to fob you off.

Before you had the CCC replaced, did voice work with just the telephone functions or all functions including navigation ?

I know in the uk, you guys have a few different options for voice.
