ipod sound quality through speakers?

How come when i play a mp3 cd it sounds much better then playing songs from my ipod hook up to the usb? i have the upgrade speakers too it seems like the bass is muddy i didn't touch any settings either?

Does your iPod have it's equalizer enabled? If so turn it off and see if it's better

+1 and are you using the iDrive to control the iPod? If not, keep the volume at about 2/3.

I am using Idrive to control it. i have the volume on zero on my ipod as well
