What should I buy? 335 or M3

Hey I am going to buy either a M3 or a 335 within 3 days. Not sure which one to go for. The differences are below....

2005 White M3 /// 5,000 Miles /// Manual /// Full exhaust, software, intake, etc.

Black 335 /// Brand New /// Manual /// I would do tons of aftermarket stuff

Which one should I buy?

I know that the 335 with software, exhaust and more new stuff will be a fully built m3. I'm just not sure which one I want.

Please tell me your opinions

I had a similar option when looking. I came from a e36 m3 - so used e46 m3 or new 335xi with all the options. I went with the latter.

New car - is a plus b/c i'm a perfectionist and I am very particular with how I take care of things, especially cars. They are always spotless, i park away from others and in corners to avoid dings, I wash and wax with certain products (Zaino only). I am anal...simple. With a used car - who knows how the previous owner took care of it...most likely not to my standards.

Comfortable. - Much more so than the e36 m3...especially after some suspension work I did, rode like a rock. I enjoy the very smooth and very quiet ride of the 335

Powerful. - More powerful than the e36 m3 for sure, it feels more powerful than the e46 m3 b/c of the torque curve. Power from the twin turbo in the 335 is rather impressive to me, beats the N/A e46 "street power" - or rather, when driving normally.

Classy - nuff said.

Well...those were my impressions with the situation. Its obvious my decision was to go with the new car. The e46 M3 was appealing, but ...i needed something practical and a little more to my personality. You could do the same. If you want to be noticed for having a race-like vehicle...M3, if you want something discreet with plenty of power and many ammenities...335. Of course this is my perspective...thats it.

The M3 E46 is a track car. Hard, high reving, expensive to mod. SMG II has been a crap. Old model now ( sorry for this ). I got sucked after 3 years ownership. 335i ( with software ) will be noticeable faster and you can drive more comfortable / relaxed. New model, e92 looks better.

I'd prefer the 335i.

I have both. The M3 is more fun overall, I just wish it were faster. If it were much faster than the 335i then it would be a non brainer. Even as it is now..I prefer to drive the M3 most of the time. But if I get software, and my 335i becomes much faster than the M3, then suddenly, I would prefer to drive the 335i. Has to do with that addiction to speed I guess..

I was in the same situation a couple of months ago, and I choosed to go with the 335i. I like the new body style and for some season it was to hard to go back to "older" body style.

The 335i is a real pleasure to drive. It's relatively smooth but also has great handling, it's fast (and for $1300 you can get another 60hp) and the new auto tranny with paddle shifters is awesome.

if i were you i would go with the 335. the reason i say go with the 335 is because when the new m3 comes out you will automaticly be out-dated.
just get the 335 and mod the hell out of it!!!!!

thats what i would do.

Yes, maybe I should have. A few friends of mine drive Porsches and I really cant exactly define why, but it's not a car I would like to drive every day. It's also not a question about image, here in Zurich you see a lot of Prosche's driving around, nobody will be impressed. Just another Porsche, nothing special.

Techart Porsche's are different

Cheers
Eugen

I faced the same problem when I bought my 335 coupe. There was a cute 6-sp M3 convertible with all options and the right color combo, or the 335 6-sp coupe with all options and a correct color combo.

I ended up getting the 335 for all reasons exposed above. Newer, better car, better brakes, higher resale value, PROcede etc.

You can get the 335i and install procede. Nice thing bout that is the car is new and you will be more powerful than a stock M3.(W/ Procede) Plus you can never tell what the owner has done to that M3.. Just my opinion though. Good Luck

if they were both new I'd say go with the M3, but in this case, go with the 335. No telling what the M3's been through and judging by the mods, they've had some "fun" with it and it's probably not all good.

That's a bit disturbing.

If you are after a drivers car the M3 is the only way to go, interior, exterior, engine and handling are superior to the 335i. BMW really got it right with this car even with the SMG. Not everyone is going to love the SMG mainly because most drivers just want to turn the key and go without having to learn a new and ultimately rewarding system.

If you want a car that is fast, quiet, a bit disconnected from the road, blends in, and doesnt require much of the driver a 335i is the way to go

my vote: 335i ... the ///M3 is still a stunner, its age is finally beginning to show ... think someone on the post did a comparison photo shoot against the new M3 and the E46 looked a bit old ...
