Best Boost gauges on the planet - also very expensive.

+1 for Defi, definetly the best gauges but they can be pricey.

The Defi is definitely worth the price and installation is a lot easier than the cheaper gauges. I had the Defi BF set up in the old car and loved it. I will eventually get it again for the 335i.

Since you are in Alhambra, you can contact Jeffrey at www.500whp.com

He is located in Hacienda Heights, around the Puente Hills area. He can get you the Defi gauges, like he did for me. If you go to his place and pay cash, there is also no tax.

I bought my Defi BF boost, oil pressure, and EGT gauge, the control unit, and the panel for my Evo from him for $800 everything...other sellers were selling them for $1,000.

Tell him WJ4 or Wis sent you, he will hook you up the best he can!

Just keep in mind that you need the controller unit also with that series Defi. I had a defi in the s2k, I love their gauges.

I bought

Innovate Motorsports XD-16 gauges for boost and afr ( controller is needed ):

Side view:

Pricey, but you can scale up to a complete datalogging system, capable for countinuosly 20 hr+ data logging, depending on the size of the SD-memory card ( currently 512 MB from my old iPaq ) you plug into the DL-32 controller. Add a LC-1 wideband sensor and you are fine. Currently I try to find out if the 335i ECU has an EGT input. I hate the idea to drill a hole into the turbo manifold to install a fast responding type K thermocouple for measuring and recording EGT's . If I have to, it will be a huge effort and I will do it between cylinder 5 and 6 .

Other products and cheaper combinations are available. I saw, jon@themshop sells that stuff. I purchased everything in Germany.

A good start for boost gauge would be one XD-16 Gauge ( $ 229 list price ) and one LMA-3 controller ( $ 249 list price ). Kits are available.

Cheers
Eugen

A mechanical Autogauge boost gauge is cheap and works and I don't like the design. Look around, prices start at $50 ...

Sometimes you will exchange it with a better looking gauge. So $50 waste.

The worst thing you can do is not to decide. Even a wrong decision is better than no decision. Old management rule. True.

Go for Defi or Innovate.

p.s. I bought a cheap mechanical boost gauge to immediately install it when the car arrives. Maybe I will have a PROcede. After that I will have plenty of time to install the datalogging system and the XD-16 gauges. When installed, everybody can have my cheap boost gauge for free by paying for the shipment. Word. Cheaper is not possible, but I will take my time.
