335i...fluctuating RPM...anyone else's car doing this?

This is the 3rd time it has happened to me. It seems to happen once per week regardless of the mileage I put on. I know it's weird.

What happens is at a full stop, the RPM will raise from the normal 600 to around 700, when this happens, the engine vibrate a bit more as well, you can feel it from the pedals. The car drives fine other than this. The rev will stay at 700 for the entire drive until you turn off the engine. Then when it is turned on again, the rep would be normal. Here is a picture of the rev at 700 I took at a stop light with my cell.

Basic info...car is a 1/07 built, changed oil at 1200 miles.

get it updated with the latest Progman version. Cured mine...I was having a long crank issue as well.

I dont mind about the 100rpm surge. That part didnt bother me, as did the vibration. Just the cranking part.

It happens to me too, and has me wondering about my fuel pump. December build--5500 miles.

that happened to me once, i assumed it was bad gas and the ECU was raising the idle to stop from stalling, i noticed because i felt the engine chatter a bit (like it was going to stall, but very lightly) and looked down

are you saying yours vibrates strangly the whole time?

Do I just go to the dealership and ask about the Progman? How do I know what version Progman I have currently? I know it is not the latest because I don't have the same screen set up.

And my a/c was not on, I do realize that the idle is a bit more when the a/c is on, but in this case it wasn't.

same thing happened me... it only happens randomly with my car. It also has a long start up... cranks a few times before turning on. I already put a order for a fuel pump... SA said it should be here first or 2nd week of may... we'll see what happens. I just want the sucker replaced before I have too much fun with my xede and get lazy with removing it.

I also have a 01/07 build but automatic

Can it be the radiator fan? I don't know if it would increase the RPM, but it may cause some vibration at the pedals.

Funny thing is that I thought I had a long crank as well. I read here that some people were having 5 second cranks before starting. I timed myself while starting, and it's been 2 seconds at longest, lol.

Fluctuating idle rmps are normal with BMW engines. Don't worry about it.

Your technicain working on your car will know what software integration level is after you bring the car in to your dealer and have them take a look at it.

Happens to me always. At idle the revs are at 600 less than one minute, then they increase to around 700 just like yours and stay there.

I have got the car checked two times. They say no error codes are shown, so there is nothing they can do and there is nothing wrong about it. It would show the errors during the full analysis, if there were any.

Later on I installed Procede, but this naturally did not change anything, because it does not tweak idle figures as all as far as I understand.

Wow same problem here.

I had the long crank issue when I first picked up the car, but haven't experienced it since.

The idle problem I still have all the time even with the A/C on.. It will generally vary from 600rpm (normal) all the way up to 800. Coming to a stop it will slowly drop, sometimes just sit at 800 and wont change. weird

I took the car out for a spin an hour or so ago and it is back to normal like usual. OT but man, the 335i pulls so much harder in colder, denser weather than the hot weather. Another reason why I drive like a grandma in day time, lol.

Now I really want to get the Progman update, I will see what the dealership says. There is definitely some glitches that I think it will help out, navi and iDrive related.
