Certified Pre-Owned Process
Hey guys,
I'm coming up to my 56000 miles, I got 4k miles before I can't CPO my vehicle anymore. I'd like to be able to finance this as I can't afford that 2-3 grand upfront for it. Does anyone know of a dealership or 3rd party service that can do this for BMWs for me to get me original manufacture warranty? I will exclude the coverage for the tires, getting sick of run flats. Get at me, and thanks for taking the time to help me with this. |

I don't think any BMW dealer can CPO your car for you, and certainly no independant shop can.
However, I have heard of people selling thier car to a BMW dealer for say 19k, with an express agreement to buy it back for 20 or 21k a week later as a CPO car (and also agree to pay the dealer $3-400 for thier time if it doesn't pass CPO inspection. That way they got the CPO warranty AND the CPO finance rate from BMW Financial. You also have to pay the sales tax, unless you have a way to write-off the tax through a business. Call the used car manager at your local dealer if interested. I am sure he'll be interested in making a quick $1,000 plus padding his sales numbers. |

i dont see the point of CPOing it. you have to have everything stock and in good condition. id rather just buy an extended warranty where you dont even need to be present.

CPO Warranty vs Extended warranty
I suppose you are thinking of getting a BMW warranty through CPO. What does this warranty cover?
I am currently looking at getting an extended warranty (comprehensive pretty much) for around $4K. I am not sure how much will it cost you doing the CPO, ofcourse your other added advantage is the financing. |

I thought this could only be done before 4years or 50k miles. OP is at 5 years, possibly 6 depending on in service date, and 56k miles.
Is this not the case anymore or am I missing something? Last edited by apc3libras; 09-21-2011 at 10:29 AM.. |

It's definitely 4yr/50k miles. OP is confused and maybe limited to just powertrain or 3rd party at this point.
From what I read on both contracts, the BMW extended warranty is better than the CPO anyway.

Within 7 years or 79,999 miles of original warranty start, you can buy the extended warranty. Though I believe if the vehicle is still under the factory warranty, you can get "better" packages such as gold/platinum. If you are outside the original warranty, you can only get the "powertrain plus". Beyond that, it's an aftermarket service agreement (often mis-labeled warranty). |

Not sure....Im guessing it will be the same price. Theoretically it should be less since it is based on time and mileage since in service date which decreases every day after original expiration.

When I was about to hit my 4yr/50k mark in March, the dealer I went to didn't mention anything about this. The SA was just pushing a 3rd party warranty with 4 new years up to 100k for $2500. He kept telling me it was better than BMW extended warranty. I didn't end up doing it.

What I'm curious about is, is the BMW extended vehicle protection merely an extension of the factory warranty, or is it a service contract like most "aftermarket warranties"? That makes a huge difference, as one is protected by magnuson moss, and one is not.

It's the extended maintenance if I'm not mistaken. CPO would still be better.

Yes CPO may be better, but you can't get CPO if you already bought/own the vehicle. And, I'm not talking about extended MAINTENANCE. I'm talking about extended warranty (aka bmw extended vehicle protection plan).

BMW Extended Warranty
My understanding is that BMW Extended Warranty comes in different flavours. Depends on when you get it. Once outside the current factory warranty, you only get the Power Train Warranty. It is NOT the same as extending the factory warranty. In factory warranty if something is peeling, they'll replace it, and you don't pay any deductible AND you will be offered a BMW loaner car if your car is kept for long time or over night. This is not the case with Extended Warranty. BMW Extended Warranty Power Train 3 years / 36,000 Miles $2,100 with $50 deductible
Correct me please if I am wrong. Dealers will also sell you BMW Maintenance plan some like 2 years/upto 100K miles for $2,300 with Zero deductible. |

It's a service contract, not a "warranty". Just like anyone else's contract -- only difference is nobody but BMW dealers will honor it.
