Stock Oil Cooler?

Hey, sorry if this is a noob question. I was just wondering how to tell if my car has a stock oil cooler? I just got the car recently, so am still doing research. Took it to the m3post bear mountain run yesterday and it seemed to be running kinda hot. I would see temps above the 250 mark. Highest it got was two notches up ~270. It would hang out at at 260-70 if driven hard, so I took it easy. Under normal driving conditions, it always stays under 250 (1-2 notches down).

Car is an 08 e92 335i w/sport package.

Any tips/advice appreciated! I don't plan on tracking the car or anything, but I would like to be able to safely drive it on a few Bear Mountain meetups occasionally. Thanks!

Pretty sure your car has the oil cooler. Easiest way to check is to see if there is a large grill behind the passenger wheel well. Not to be confused with the small hole at the bottom which is the air duct for cooling the brakes though.

I also notice that at high elevations the engine runs hotter.

Thanks. Will take a look when I get back to the car. From what I've been told (which is often misinformation), the sport package cars received the oil cooler. I'm just surprised it ran that hot with it. Another guy at the run was seeing those temps without an oil cooler and he had full boltons, meth + jb4

Really!? Now I'm quite interested.

What was the ambient temperature? Is your car automatic or manual? What about the other guy?

My car is a 6spd manual, the other car was an e90 nonsport, auto. Temp was probably around 70 degrees. We were at some altitude I'm sure, so perhaps that could have affected it like you mentioned. What I did not mention is that I am running the Cobb Stage 1 map. That surely could have had something to do with it. I just figure if I have the oil cooler and fewer mods + lower boost levels, I should be running cooler, but I guess not!

A 2008 e92 with the Sport Package and 6-speed manual was one of the configurations that received an oil cooler from the factory. You should have one.

On track days in the summer down here in Florida, I see oil temps peak at ~270-deg F with the factory oil cooler. In the winter, I see peaks a little lower at 260-deg F.

I have had a few experiences with limp mode, but all have been coolant related and not oil related.
