Retorque

This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know why they asked me to go back for a retorque of the wheels bolts after after about 100km on them? What exactly is the purpose of this?

I just did a google search, and I found a thread that said the exact reason is because:

"Rims are painted prior to assembly. As you drive your car, paint will wear away causing bolts to lose torque."

I was told to get retorqued at 50 miles and then again at 100 miles. However, since I bought used wheels (sweet set of Lexions from uhaulball), it seems that this wouldn't apply to me. Is my logic correct? BTW, I've gone ~250 miles without a retorque because I just haven't had a chance to get in. I guess I'll just go get retorqued tomorrow for the heck of it..

Some places say 120 Nm = 88 pound feet. It is interesting that the torque wrench that they sell with their jack kit is set at 130 Nm.

lugs are the most important part of your wheel, forget your rim, they can make or break your car, so be careful and be sure to use OEM if not expensive, good quality high grade bolts.

the specs for torqing are usually 80 on bolts, and 40 on locks (be sure not to tighten the locks more than 50, there very hard to get off then).

the reason they ask you to come back is once wheels are put on for the first time after they're off, the lugs become loose. not loose so you can stick your hand and take them off, but every so slightly loose. so you go back the next day (or 60kms) and they just take their torque wrench and tighten it, and your good. ive never heard of it ever having anythng to with paint, sorry bud.
