E90 CSL and SPACER problem
Hey guys,
so i have an e90, with csl rims with an offset of 45 in the rear. i went to instal 10mm spacers today and when the gentleman at the shop installed them, (he put the parking break on before he jacked the car) the longer bolts that came with the H&R spacers hit the parking brick, causing the break to make a sound. he told me that when i drove and applied any break, i would feel the breaks (or the rotors) hitting the longer bolts and hear it clinking as well. i know a lot of you guys have csl's with the same offset with spacers installed, any suggestions? |

with a bolt grinder
take them to a machine shop. The reason the bolts may not be working is that the csl wheel is not as thick as an oem wheel, so the bolts end up being too long. for example, the hub of an oem wheel is about 20 mm thick. hence oem bolts are 23 mm long. Add a 15 mm spacer, and you need a bolts that is atleast 38 mm long. If the CSL wheel is only 18 mm thick, then the bolts only have to be 36 mm thick. By changing to aftermarket wheels, you need shorter bolts. Get it?

Yep...using spacers isnt plug and play..H&R does there best to compensate for the need for longer bolts..but sometimes they may be a bit short..or long. You potentially could contact H&R about this. My old contact at H&R was Roland.

word to the wise, be careful what kind of longer bolts you use to allow for spacers.
there are ones that have a cone shape finsh to them like the OEM and there are ball type ones. I am talking about the area just above where the thread ends, near the head of the bolt You want to stick with ones that have the taper style (cone shpae) like the short stock black ones. The round ball type ones will give you potential problems. |

Or better yet, find a friend with a bench grinder or even a belt sander and you can grind off enough to make them fit without rubbing.

i wouldnt grind them. double check the bolt. oem is 35mm long. the h&r should be 45mm. if anything over, send them back and get teh right bolt. h&r make them right. they might have sent you 15mm bolt.
