Truthfully I dont think its worth it. The price you are going to pay is going to be way more then a 335i costs. Just sell your car and move to the 335i and enjoy your warranty.

There are many small details you have to look into before doing a big install like this. All my friends want to go big power, and when they do, some have second thoughts because something is always going wrong.

Remember that the more stuff you do to the car, the more chance it has of malfunctioning.

A custom tubo install on your car, IF they can get it to work (no one else has so far) will be around $10-15000. I'd much rather just get the 335.

From what I understand, the double-VANOS and it's DME control make force induction very difficult on our N52 engine. That type of FI causes the car to go into limp mode. You may want to do a search for HorsepowerFreak's thread. There was a long discussion about this awhile ago.

The N54 is able to tolerate that with a higher compression ratio because of direct injection.

I don't believe it's got anything to do with VANOS, since the E46 has double vanos (for almost all it's production), and it's very common to FI those cars... I'm sure it's got much to do with Valvetronic, but even that shouldn't be taking an active roll in preventing boost, like christ@hpf was complaining about.
