BMW service crashed my car

Hi, I just brought my 325xi in for service the other day and when the technician called up he said he had some bad news for me. They crashed the car into one of the lift forks and completely ruined the bumper. They are working on fixing it right now. Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

Yep..sure did..but not with my BMW. Man moons ago..I took my Triumph TR6 in for some routine work...as they were driving it into the bay..the inexperienced tech drove it into the workbench in error. They ended up paying for my rental..replacing my bumper..my headlamps..and realigning my hood TWICE..and repainting my hood TWICE. I was not happy with the first repaint job. So, take this as an opportunity to get a nice new paint job on a new bumper. Milk it baby...milk it. But, these type of things DO happen...we are only human. I am sure the tech is worried about getting fired...

Just so I can beat the inevitable posters to it:

Insist on a new 7 Series and don't take anything less.

That does suck, and I'd be pissed... but if they are going to do a 100% fix and make sure you are not inconvinienced then that's about all you can ask.

Yea, right in front of me, the stupid girl was to pull my car around couldnt seem to get it in gear and it rolled into the the car that was ahead of mine, as their drive is on an incline. All it did was bend my front license plate frame a bit (they threw in a free detail), but it dented the guys bumper in front of mine. He has a Z3 M or what ever its called.

Wow. This reminds me of a time when I friend of mine took his brand new Volvo C70 in that he had just taken delivery of a few days earlier. The idiot lto attendant tried to be cool and peeled out of the lot to take it over to the service area........right into the back of a UPS truck! Oh yeah, he also pulled right in front of another car which then smashed into the back of the car! Needless to say the car was totalled! This with my friend and the GM standing there watching. He got a brand new turbo one for like $8000 off. Funny now in hindsight, but damn!

I remember reading a story at Bimmerfest where a guy dropped off his E46 M3 for servicing, then one of the kids working on it took it out for a high-speed joy ride, lost control, and wrecked it. I can't imagine how furious that guy was. I can't remember the outcome of the story, but all I know is that I would definately make sure I came out of it better than before. In your case, I would see if I can get some kind of extra goodies out of it, as they did damage your car and it will be something you will have to report once you sell the car.

What truly shocking here is we haven't seen the usual "Accept nothing short of a new car post"

That sucks man. Sorry to hear it. Hopefully they will make it right. I wouldn't ask for a new car, or this, or that...but I might ask for a NICE loaner. X5? 7? Something fun.

good luck.

They had an accident and admitted it, and they're going to fix it. These things happen as we are all human. Just make sure it's fixed to your satisfaction and let it go. Move on. Forget about it.

Damn Hyper...good find! Oh how pissed I would be. They would have to total that if it was my car. I'm not saying the frame has to be bent, but I would bet it was a little. That literally made my heart sink. It not hard to believe with some of the dopes I've seen working on cars though.

That was 'stuka' on Bimmerfest. Can't remember how it eventually ended up but I know he now has a Porsche.

+1. You should also get some sort of compensation for your troubles, if they are a good dealership.

It'd be a rollercoaster of emotions, but best you can do is keep your cool, and make sure the dealer makes you whole with relation to the damage and inconvenience. That's all you can ask.

Dealer wrecked my brand new 325ix

that was back in 1987 , the first series iX , bought it sight unseen one of the very first in NA. The dealer phones me to say it was in , my wife was having a Christmas party that night so didn't want the car there for me to show off. Next morning we head down to the dealer first thing I notice is the service door crumpled from the inside, and knew right away to expect bad news. Sure enough the ix was parked just inside and a mechanic working on 3.0 cs had it jump in reverse and push our car through the door. The dealer gave us a new one but it took over a month to arrive, I feel sorry for the guy who bought our car, as I'm sure the dealer repaired it and sold as a new car.

I'd also call it no big deal -- those $500 bumper covers without scuff strips are practically throwaway anyways. If there was no damage to the (metal) bodywork then there's totally nothing to get upset about.

Hell, I wouldn't mind a periodic Dealer-funded respray of the bumpers
