Change your oil!

Just changed my oil, been 6000 miles since last... forgot how much a difference it makes.... *feels* like I freed up 10hp lol.

Go do it now if you're due soon so you can fall in love with your car again!

(Thank you bro, it was a cool story)

It makes such a difference doesn't it! The '30d just doesn't run quite as sweet as usual when the oil is poor. Love it when its on fresh stuff, its like the day I picked it up

The human body can't perceive any difference between new oil and 6000 mile oil.

That's a matter of "I want to believe."

Just let the CBS do its job.

I would have to disagree. I was certainly surprised... genuinely. I wasn't expecting, consciously, any difference of any kind. I just started driving and noticed the car felt about 100lbs lighter... maybe I lost some weight performing the oil change

old oil becomes more sludgier, thus restricts the movements of the crank, bearings, and piston? Therefore, by that theory, fresh oil is thinner and smoother. Because there is less drag on these moving parts, this gave you +10 HP.

So if you want another 10HP, put in water which has the thinner viscosity than oil.

haha

I also notice that when I clean my car

It runs better.
But I do believe in the 5000 to 7500 mile change I hope it will keep
the dreaded valve ticking away.

dre- I think you'd feel approximately 700lbs lighter if you got a z35. My wallet would then feel lighter and we'd all feel better.

seriously though, oil's viscosity shouldn't be changing within change intervals.

hahah. ya that sux about the z4. oh well. I just dumped $2500 into my car to gain 15% wheel torque instead of a down payment on that z.

Change the coolant, trans, and diff oils and you'll gain another 30HP. Changing the blinker fluid adds only 3 more HP and is not worth the cost of the special fluid (I don't recommend it).

Odd how they let me have a free oil change every year under warranty regardless of mileage (and as a result, they gave me two oil changes 1500 miles/4 months apart since the CBS was calling for another one...) but it's OK to let it go 2 years out of warranty?

Having a hard time trusting the CBS here... is modern oil so good that time in use is no longer a factor?

Do NOT trust the time interval on the computer - the time interval is one year in the US. In the US, they are incorrectly programmed for 2 years - IIRC, the interval for Europe where the gas is better. Since you have not had it changed since May, 2010, you are now a few months overdue for your May, 2011 change.

See the Warranty/Service manual where it specifically states not to exceed a one year interval for oil changes. Whether you are in or out of warranty is irrelevant, except for your out of pocket cost.

That's what I thought. I heard they changed the free annual oil service to every 2 years at one point, then changed it back to one year?
