What should I add to my new 335i and the first things to buy?
Hi all,
I just purchased an 08 335i white outside with black leather, xenons, premium pkg and nav. 31000 mi. for 26500. Not a mark on it. It was a previous buyback and the only reason for this was the fuel pump, no other issues, I called the california BMW dealership myself and the dealer I bought it from let me get it checked out by a BMW dealership before buying. My friend who works for a BMW dealership said if that was all that was wrong to go for it as long as BMW checks it out before I buy it. Let me know what y'all think about the price/circumstances. Also, I've added a tint to the windows and am looking to see what I should do to the car as well. I'm pretty simple, not looking for something that looks like it should be in the fast and the furious, but want to make small changes to improve the aesthetic. Right now I'm looking for black carpet floor mats and cleaning items. Where should I be getting these from and what kinds and I would appreciate any other direction y'all might have as far as accessories and items for maintaining. I can post pictures if need be. Thanks in advance for your help and I'm loving my new car. It's a rocketship. Previously owned an 03 Jetta GL. |

Cleaning items? As in wash, polish, seal?
If so, I highly recommend Autogeek (http://www.autogeekonline.net) or Autopia Carcare (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/). Excellent product, knowledgeable folks on their forums...read up on the "how-to" articles to get started. I got into detailing (just personal cars, not as a job) when I bought a 2-year-old Lexus LS 400....have been working on my 2007 335i 'vert for the last month (since I bought it) and when it went in for a routine service last week my SA said it looked better than the brand new ones coming out from their detail shop for new buyers.... It's all in the prep and how you do it - good products make some difference, but someone who knows what they're doing can make a car look great with things you can buy for under $50 at Wal-Mart. cheers, Andrew |

Black oem mats you can get from tischer. or ebay.
cleaning items. get the basics, carwash shampoo(i use chemical guys, but there are many good ones like poorboys, meguiars, griots,or even dawn lol), boars head brush, or a lambskin wool mitt (soft so it doesnt scratch paint when rubbing off dirt), microfiber towel/absober/chamois to dry without scratching paint. oh and look into Procede, JB4(jb+), and Cobb. (of course dinan giac and others) seriously look into them. |

It is a sedan....yeah, I was looking for cleaning items. I've had a beat up Jetta for years, so it got the standard car wash treatment. I have a little bit left on factory warranty, so I was looking at the performance package through BMW. I could always wait for the warranty to go and look at an aftermarket that would have voided the warranty. I'm curious on how some small carbon fiber touches might look on the white. Spoiler lip, emblems, etc. if anyone has seen some good things added to a white with black.

If you want somthing fun, get a BOV put the stock on back on if you need to go to the dealer, if you have a warranty and then do what everyone above me said, good luck! |

man asking people on these forums about "what mods to do" is going to open up a big can of worms...the possibilities always seem endless and it becomes addicting -- even when you say "nah nah I'm not going to do anything maybe just a lip..."

If you're looking for some excellent cleaning/detailing supplies, check out Zaino. Its expensive but so very worth it. It made my higher-mileage black 335i look like a new car.

Thank you all for your advice......especially the very well detailed list that would have taken me hours to put together....the extended warranty is coming for sure given the nature of how I purchased the car and I'm interested in a Dinan pkg as well (Not sure whether 1 or 2 level and I'm a little worried about my engine falling apart from it in like 50,000 miles.). Think I'm looking at LEDs for the interior and maybe a small rear spoiler either white to match or carbon fiber.

It's good to use Dawn for the car-wash you do right before you detail your car.

If you want the best bang-for-the-buck performance, forget Dinan. I'd go for the Cobb AccessPort. $795 new (used from $650 or so), gives you around 390hp/410tq at the crank with an otherwise stock engine. Also, you can completely remove it in a few minutes if you need to take it to the dealer for warranty work. I won't say any more, but you can check out the several threads on it in the N54 engine mods subforum. Also, they're just coming out with the Stage 2 tune that allows you a pre-mapped tune for FBO (full-bolt-ons, i.e. front-mount intercooler, intake, downpipes), which gives even more HP if you want to do those mods later on!
I just bought a new house and am creating my garage workshop right now, but as soon as my wallet recovers from that I'm all over the Cobb for my 335i! Also, I just noticed you live an hour north of me! Let me know if you find any good roads around here... |
