Video: Stock 335 vs M3 with mods
So tonight I had the chance to meet up with a fellow e90poster (Brusso). We did a few runs from a dig, one from a ~10mph roll because Brusso said he had traction issues or something. We also got got two highway pulls which only one was recorded.
My 335i: 6AT, stock RFT, Sedan, a little over half tank gas (arco long story...) Bursso's M3: SMG, big 19's I believe wide as hell!! he also had a hair over half tank of gas. Plus, headers , mid pipes, exhaust, intake, D/A race software. :rocks: **What happened in the videos is to me. Either my motor is really strong or his motor is really weak. :::disclaimer:::: Videos were recorded with a whopping 6mp digi camera (walkedU ) Click Refresh to restart video Sorry its 11:30pm and didnt/wouldnt pass wga check... nor did i have the time to download some video compressing programs so i just used flash. Check out the videos enjoy them for what they are. I'll try to get some day time videos this weekend. Enjoy, "Z" aka John Video 1: From a light I got a jump let off to allow m3 to catch up but didnt time it too good and just let the m3 have some fun.... Tease? Video 2: 60 to about 100/110mph, neck and neck I believe I wouldve taken a lead if we went to 120. As we changed gears you can see I moved up slightly. Highway Pull 60-110ish Video 3:From a stop upto around 85 when Bursso let off. I really felt like I was starting to take lead. But then again watching the video it looks like he got a small jump. If not I'm glad I kept up with a modded m3. From Dig until ~85 Last edited by SfValley335i; 04-26-2007 at 11:48 AM.. |

Nice. stock 335i did very well vs a modded m3
Shitty cameras ftw. Yours is even better than mine hahah. I need to upgrade, the way the 6mp amera looks. I think im going to have to go with that.

I'd say you match up pretty good against a modded M3. That should give Brusso enough indication that 335i PROceded/AA'd > M3.
On the otherhand, I have grown to like the crackling sound of Walked U's camera. |

On stock internals your going to have to upgrade your internals sooner or later. I mean the s54 engine is stout but the engine is running 200%-300% over stock form.

Kudos to horsepowerfreaks for that build up. I think their 500 hp street kit will probably be a good set up (around 5 psi or so), but I dont think things will hold up for long trying to squeeze 600+ rwhp out of stock internals. I'd rather go with something like the full rebuild BHS does.

Nice runs, the video quality wasn't too bad either IMO.
As far as the turbo M3 goes, good luck getting a NA car from the factory to run like stock once its turbo'd. Been there, done that, and i'll never do it again. It was fun, but it was a huge headache.

more videos to come this weekend during the day. Will probably do runs up to 130 and see if the different fuel in my car will make a noticable difference. (arco -> shell)

The first video we both sat at the light. Johns tints were sooo dark I couldn't get his attention to see if we were going on the green or what so he rolled off the light and the we punched it. He wasn't ready and I was already gone. The second video was our first fwy run. I wanted to go from 40 John wanted 60. He told me to put it in full auto mode so when I honked I was in 4th the car had to down shift then go... he did get the jump... I pulled 1/2 a car ??? Wow now that I think about it at 60 my car didn't down shift to 2nd. It went to 3rd when the car shifted into 4th I messed up and shifted myself as well so I jumped to 5th. Thats why I let off and he was gone. The 3rd run I had trac. controll off in full auto mode. No launce controll no power brake. I think from a dig John power braked... The car spins the tires when the temps are below 70-74 in first , the car shifted early about 7500 rpm because of traction put it in 2nd and did it again. I was so pissed off at what the car was doing I let off again. This is my first experience racing the car by any means. AGAIN LET ME SAY JOHNS CAR IS FAST.... 335'S ARE FAST we are going to make some more passes hopefully this weekend with another John who has a proceed 335. It should be fun. I hope the weather is a little warmer. THANKS AGAIN JOHN FOR EVERYTHING SEE YOU THIS WEEKEND.

Why did you drive in full auto? That definetly gives the advantage to the 335 (although if he was driving auto in D or DS then not much of a advantage). And from a dig why not launch control if he power braked and launched? Although i love that the 335 can keep up / keeps up with the m3 in the vids, but this seems like a unfair advantage for the 335.

Somethings wrong with that M3.
With the mods he has he should walk a stock 335i. Those videos look like what we would expect from a stock M3 vs. stock 335i race. Brusso, go get your M3 dynoed, with your mods, if it's not putting down 300+ HP something is not right. Dang I wish you would of posted this last week. I would of showed you what my PROceded sedan would of done to your M3. "Z" (aka John) can tell you all about that. |

brake torqing, launch control,DS mode etc wouldn't make a huge difference. as you can see in the video a modded m3 cant walk away from a (my) stock 335 both are neck & neck. brusso, hang on tight when you go at it with the procede 335. try to get it on tape |

Also turbo auto cars are actually very good for drag racing. They do no loose boost between shifts, and the auto 335i does have shorter gearing.

I was expecting alot more than what I saw lastnight from the m3, especially since it was moded. might have been his car or might have been my car being a strong really strong motor |

Ive actually checked the elevation at the place we did the runs at. Its about1100 ft. I feel like when the smg would switch gears it would allow me to move up a little. I wish we wouldve ran up to 130's. |
