got error electric steering wheel lock faulty

as above got that error. anyone know best way to fixing it or had the same pproblem.

Can't say what they did on the UK, but in the US BMW was originally replacing steering columns, then did a software update instead. My car had the SW update (I didn't want them ripping the steering column out) and since then (over 140,000 miles ago) I've not had the problem reoccur. The parts get better with age.

There is a DIY somewhere where a member removed the lock mechanism and cleaned and lubed it.

View this link to see if this is the error that you got, if it is, I would suggest to check your battery first, I took my car to the dealer and that's what it needed and I have had any problems since.

thanks guys seen the diy guides quite time consuming methods lol. kodak the link you passed me those signs are the one i am getting. thing is for few months i was geeting the amber sign and all of a sudden i got the red on today. even though my cars starting without a problem even though the sign is there. i will see if i can try removing the console and changing it all together really

You should check the battery first, it might be all you need,it was happening for a few months, until I decided I didn't want to take chance on getting stuck anywhere .Either way good luck, keep us all updated.
