Should I make the jump to a BMW?
Hello everyone I am new to this forum so sorry if I got this post in the wrong spot.
I am looking into buying a used 2007 BMW 335i coupe. I have a G35 coupe that I like but just looking to upgrade a little. I hear the 335i is a great car but then I also hear it can be a mechanical nightmare is this true? Should I make the jump from Infinity to BMW? Also I am think about getting one with the nav system, but I have read some bad things about the iDrive system and it's really hard to use? Would like to hear anyone's inputs and anything else I should know before buying and driving a BMW. Thank you!!!! |

iDrive hard to use? I don't see how it's difficult, takes some getting used to like everything else.
335s are great cars, but you're rolling the dice if you buy one that's not CPO. |

I'll say YES, why? cuz i had 4 BMW's in my life and I loved ALL 4 (One was an M3). Like U I'm driving a G35 Coupe right now and looking to upgrade too. I heard a lot of bad stories about the 335i too, so I'm going with a 328i convertible. So I said all of this to say, I'm looking too.. All the best on your pick, just make sure it's a BMW ;-)

I just ordered a new E90 after trying the new G37 and Lexus IS350. I could get more for the money with the Infinity and the Lexus, but the BMW just drives better.
Besides that, the BMW people I have been around both in the CCA and at the local dealership have all been incredibly helpful and I wanted to stay a part of this "community". Have said that - a used 2007 335 would scare the hell out of me without a long warranty. Heard too many nightmares on here and with local BMW owners in the CCA. I have only used the i-drive in the demo car the dealer gave us (still waiting on our new one) and it was pretty straight forward. Not sure why people find it difficult. |

"get more for your money".........If its lights, switches and shiny things you need then go Japanese build (nice cars) or pay to have similar. More toys, more things to break.
These are drivers cars. You can have your cake and eat it fully optioned out. I have premium and sport and don't miss the iDrive at all. I like the clean look of having no LED screen. Some have it and love it, some don't and want it. Get it how you want, but enjoy the drive. Its what you pay for! |

I had a 2007 G35 sedan and loved it. Totaled it after 3 months, so I decided to drive a 335i and bought one after considering another G35 or IS350. No comparison in performance and driving experience. The 335 is a sports car, g35/is350 are sporty luxury cars. IMHO. As pointed out, there are trade-offs in costs and reliability. Had my 335 for over a year now and had the fuel pump go out a month after I got it. They fixed it under warranty and no problems for more than a year and 20k miles. Performance is amazing and I don't regret the decision. I kind of regret not getting a 335i coupe instead of the sedan

Dont even look back. yes the g35 was reliable, but the 335i offers everything just a little better. plus more power and better handling. The G35 is a sexy timeless car, but 335i is better in almost everyway. Not every 335i is trouble.... just most lol

Thank you, I think I might get a 335i but if I do I will get a extended warranty. for the iDrive being hard to use I just seen it in a few reviews. But also I think they made it easier to use in later years.

I believe its the iDrive software in pre-2009 models that is crap. The iDrive software was upgraded in the 2009 model year and is supposedly vastly superior to the older version. I'd shoot for a 2009 to 2011 model 335i.

If you're under 60 and have even a remote familiarity with electronic gadgets, iDrive is easy. I've had both touch screen nav (in a previous vehicle) and I really prefer iDrive.
As SWFan noted above, the post LCI iDrive is awesome and much improved. |

went from a 07 G35 coupe to a 10 335i sedan. I haven't had an issue with the 335i (knock on wood) and couldn't be more happier with the switch. DO IT, you will regret it if you dont

What year G35, '07? If so, NO WAY! I love my 335i, but I'm giving you realistic and objective advice. If your 335 would be a 2nd car and just a toy, that would be ok. But DO NOT give up a G35 for a 335.

The iDrive was improved from 2009 on. But that doesn't mean the old iDrive is a deal breaker. Those who say its shit and breaks a deal are just talking shit about BMW, as we know so many people love to do and never drove one themselves. Would you believe some people think Honda Accords are better cars than BMWs? If having a built in Nav is important to you, then look for one with iDrive. If not so important, then not having it is just fine. I ordered mine brand new and didn't care for the iDrive. Just not worth the money IMO, and I was pushing my budget already.

Definitely get the 335i
I test drove the G37 before I got my 335i and was very disappointed as I always loved infinitis until I actually drove one. On the other hand, I tested the 335i and couldn't stop dreaming about it for 4 months until mine finally arrived. Until now I never kept a car for more than 2-3 years. Had this one for a little over 4 years and plan on keeping much longer. My 8yr want to drive it when he gets his license.
