yep. the standard procede should work in the xi. we wil know within a few days of its release. at most, it will need only a map change from the standard procede system.

the 0-60 time should be killer (even the stock xi is rated faster to 60 than the non-xi), but quarter mile will probably lag behind the RWD car

the questions are
1a) will the xi system be able to handle the torque?
1b) What x-drive applications out there are using such high ammounts of torque?
2a) Is the steptronic trans equiped to handle that torque as well?
2b) What steptronic trans equiped bmws handle that much torque? (not sure if the m5 uses the same trans...I'm almost sure it doesnt)

If I could get solid answers to the above questions I'd highly consider PROcede. The problem is I dont think there has been much testing done on the 335xi as there are so few of them around....and as bad as this might sound I dont want to be the guinea pig when I get mine in august.

I for one am planning to purchase the 335xi coupe when its available this fall. I think with Procede or something similar it should be good enough for at least mid 12's or better...I believe the much better launch off the line will save more time than the awd drive train loss will hurt it through the quarter mile

The X5 with the 4.8l v8 handles as much torque, but I think that is a different system then in the cars.

The steptronic in the xi is the same as the rwd 335 so no difference there. I would guess the weak link will be clutch that sends the power to the front wheels.

Anyone know of any supercharged X5 out there?

Isn't it kind of the same thing?

It starts with the RWD tranny, and adds a clutch to direct power to the front wheels. The clutch is adjustable to vary the amount of torque between front and back. In normal driving it directs more power to the back then front, in order to maintain the RWD nature of the car.

If you said the X5 uses a different system how would evaluating a blown x5 help us understand how the 335xi would handle such stresses?

I think the main difference is it is chain driven from the clutch, rather then belt. So it would give us some idea of the general strength of the system, I should have added 3-series to that list as well.

I did a little searching and found an e46 330xi with a supercharger but it was only making just over 300hp. Also no mention was made of its reliability.

In the end the only way to know is to try. I'm not doing it to my 335xi as it will be mainly driven by my wife and I suspect 300hp will be sufficient for her.

lol...yeh my wife is also going to be driving the 335xi...thats why I got auto. So you are saying the xi system in the 335 gets its power to the front wheels via a "belt" vs a "chain" system? I dont think I like the sound of that.

Some AWD setups don't have a clutch and drive front and back all the time. I imagine if there is a clutch it's going only to be mostly RWD and use the FWD only when traction is an issue. This might make for awesome performance. The benefit of AWD for a launch, with the lighter drivetrain of a RWD car.

Gotcha, although this one does drive the front wheels all the time, the standard split is 40/60 front/back. It can send 100% of the power to either the front of back wheels.
