Question for other 335i E92 automatic owners.
Has anyone else notice that when in standard drive if you don’t ease on the accelerator just right from a stop the shift into 2nd can be a little harsh? I only have about 700 miles on the car so I am not use to it yet, but I defiantly notice a hard shift into second if I am not really easy on the accelerator.

Your right, generally it's not a problem, and thanks, I really love the combo also.

What exactly are the differences between D and DS besides the gears shifting later on in the RPMS? Can't you just keep the pedal down in Automode?

that happens all the time for me in standard "D" if the engine is not completely warm. I figured out though by moving to "DS" mode, the jerkyness is no longer there...plus its a lot more fun to drive that way...now I only drive in "DS" mode!

Actually when your in D the car starts in 2nd gear (for gas mileage reasons) but in DS starts in first and if you are in D and paddle shift to M1 it will stay like that , but if you are driving in D and use paddles Manual mode will go away after 8 seconds. I hope this answers every question

thanks for starting the thread, i noticed the same thing this week a few times and was slightly worried.
glad to see its nothing. and yes, i have noticed a bigger difference in D and DS lately. i have 2500 miles on it now. the DS is always ready to be punch at any time. its so addicting. i drive mostly at low speeds/lots of lights, so combined that with the drug like effects of DS and my fuel economy drops to like 16.

I'm also noticing the difference b/w D & DS too with only 7xx miles.
And it's really easy to get addicted of that DS experience...however for me w/ little if not none knowledge about machines....Does staying and driving in DS mode All the time hurt my car...?!?! Also, do you still do the shifting w/ DS mode on? |

In DS mode, the tranny will also downshift sooner when you are slowing down (try and feel for it and/or watch your rpms when you are coming to a stop or slowing for a turn) keeping the engine at a higher rpm and lower gear. Thus, being in DS mode when of coming out of the turn, then stepping on it, you're already in a lower gear. Unless you really stomp on it, the DS won't have to down shift, it's already there! In D, the tranny basically downshifts once you actually get back on the throttle or you've come to a complete stop.
I'm always in DS mode except on the freeway. D is overdrive IMO. In my '04 530i, i didn't notice any difference in mileage driving in D all the time, so DS it was until i hit the freeway.
