Re-wireing cigarete lighter (aux) for constant on?

Hey all,

I have a 335I and with that the cigarete lighter and Aux power outlet were constant on, would love to be able to charge things while the car is parked...

Any ideas? Was hoping that if I swaped out a fuse it would swap it... I think you could do that on my 99 Maxima...

?

It's quite easy - if you can find the wiring diagram and know how a relay works.

I'm almost certain the lighter plug is actuated by a Bosch relay that gets energized when the vehicle is turned on. Find that relay, search on the web for how a 12v relay works and then modify the relay such that it is always on (involves bending the tab that gets energized).

It's easier than it sounds. I did it on a few of my other vehicles without a hitch.

I was hoping for a simple wire/fuse swap... I would have thought this would have been a popular Mod./DIY

An easier solution available without re-wiring is that you can purchase an power adapter (82110004073) thru your dealer around ($9.50) or online http://www.pacificbmw.com/ for $8.07. This adapter plugs into the flashlight charging socket in the glovebox, leaving your center console free from wires. The current remains hot all the time and the only issue you may have is that the device you want to charge is limited to a 3amps draw.

Got that... I have my Valentine V1 plugged into that and the wire coming out through the glove box...

I don't like using the ashtray one much and was hoping that I could use the Aux for most of my needs (i.e. Ipod/Cell phone)
