yup...I'm in Va Beach sitting in my office...and I felt the building start to sway. I thought it was just really windy until I realized the foundation was moving too....causing my chair to go side to side. that was really weird.

I had just got home and sat down to browse some E90post and shit just started rocking, I grabbed my3 year old daughter and ran outside my Grill was moving on the sidewalk, I live on the Potomac river and I kept staring at the river wondering if it was going to come up at us, then I thought we under attack.
Then I stopped being a girl and came inside to have a beer

I had the same exact thought about the water. Started to have flashbacks of the "Day after tomorrow" tsunami wave and started to wonder if I should make a break for the roof . Then I saw it was a 5.8 and chilled

Location Uncertainty

The horizontal and vertical uncertainties in an event's location are based on values Ehro and Erzz described below. We assign an "unknown" value if the contributing seismic network does not supply the necessary information to generate uncertainty estimates. The position uncertainty of the hypocenter location varies from about 100 m horizontally and 300 meters vertically for the best located events, those in the middle of densely spaced seismograph networks, to 10s of kilometers for global events in many parts of the world.
-1km (+/- 7.4km). so the depth can be as deep as 8.4km below ground? Or right on the surface of the earth?

Well the reason I ask is because the table has a row called "Depth" and in that row, it states 1km.

It's the location uncertainty that confuses me, but I think all that's saying is that it could be shallower or up to 7.4km deeper than the 1km estimate.

Or am I just bad at reading comprehension today?

I think I agree with you here. Anywhere from the surface to 8.4km down, they don't know exactly.

Location Uncertainty; horizontal +/- 10.9 km (6.8 miles); depth +/- 7.4 km (4.6 miles)

In other words, its the best guess they have so far.

lol. maybe a good idea to stay inside in some places though. stay by a door frame or something structural. people get injured by loose objects from ceiling and walls.
