history of BMW and Turbocharging

hello

I was wondering:

Has BMW made turbocharged engines before the N54?

How experienced are they with forced induction?

+1 on the turbo diesels.

The last BMW that was a gas turbocharged was a Euro E23 745i back in the 80s.
The one before that was the 2002 Turbo back in the 70s.

For F1 racing BMW had a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine which can make over 1200rwhp at over 80psi (qualifying). Actual race days had much lower boost.

BMW HISTORY from wikipedia.
