BMW is notorious for bad orange peel. You can have it sanded and removed. However, you better not plan on polishing every six months and you better have a tight wash regimen so that you are not introducing scratches while you wash.
MuttGrunt had a badass spread of a full sand and paint correction....cant find it though BUT, there are coatings out that will actually add thickness to the clear (artificial clear 1-2 microns) like opti-guard/opti-coat. Protects better, last longer, and you actually will just mar that layer, not the actual clear layer from what I understand. http://www.detailedimage.com/wax.php...-Coating-P554/ Ive applied it to a few cars and those clients say the washings are easier and faster and the car stays cleaner longer. Im waiting for a new car and then I will apply it to my own Last edited by Envious Eric; 08-21-2011 at 12:17 PM.. |

Mine definitely has some. Pretty much all mass-produced cars today will have some.

I have been told by my SA that all modern BMW's because of the electrostatic deposition process they use to paint their vehicles now. On the posiitive side, when your buying used, you can always tell panels that have been repainted because they are too smooth.

My 2008 328i has a lot of orange peel. But this article on a new Ferrari 458 shows that even our dream cars have it.

I bought my car brand new and the paint was smooth as silk..if anything the elctrostatic process would help the paint adhere more quickly than traditional spray..sounds like a bad batch or smthg

I have not seen a BMW or MErc made in the last few years without some orange peel, some worst than others. Only solution is sanding but there are other issues with doing that. To me it's not that big a deal and I do notice it but more concerned with how the paint looks clarity and gloss not the texture.

I dont see how it could be repainted if I bought it brand new..
Picked up from the dealer with 4 miles on it..very early production 9/06..i honestly think BMW may have started rushing the production process and cutting corners later on..perhaps thats why some are seeing these paint flaws? |

Look around people: this is affecting ALL new cars, not just your beloved BMWs. Go talk to Acura owners or Audi owners and they'll be complaining about the same thing

My 07 e92 is very smooth actually...minimal orange peel. If you want to see bad orange peel, look at some Hondas!
