335i Fuel Pump Failure Poll (Stand and be Counted)

Obviously this will not be 100% accurate, it should give us some idea how many people are having problems.

Here is how it should work:

Production date 07/06 to 12/06
Yes had a failure
No did not have a failure

Production date 01/07 to present
Yes had a failure
No did not have a Failure

For cars that have not had a failure we should limit them to any cars which have at least 5k miles since we have heard that if you have not seen the problem by then you are probably ok.

Last but not least, if you have less then 5K miles

You can select the hope and pray category

The best data on this are from the backorder #s (approx 200), repairs (approx 100), and total 335s sold (12,000). I figure something like a 3% failure rate so far, which is bad but not disastrous.

Can we add a link or info for people who don't know where to find their build date so they can respond as well?

+1 It's good to put things into perspective. You read enough of these, yet another pump failure thread, I can imagine some owners would get spooked and enjoy less of this excellent car.

stressdoc...not doubting, but just curious as to how you got the repaired number.

Another good thing to know is, whether or not there has been reoccurring failures. To date, I don’t think that has happened yet.

It's a good idea to keep a spare car around, just in case.

Make that a separate poll if you like but I would think there is no correlation between the presence or lack of an oil cooler and the failure of the fuel pump. It would just confuse matters. My pump failed so I'm a bit emotional.

There is no connection between missing oil cooler and dead fuel pump. The fuel pump is flat out defective... nothing causes the failure, it will fail regardless

I was doing a little research... as some of you know, the pump is made by seimens. Well, seimens is in some hot water right now, one of their top exec's just jumped ship, and got some bad press, and this isnt the first time they screwed a car company with bad fuel pumps, seimens made a fuel pump for large ford diesels a while ago, and those would fail, and ford eventually issued a massive recall for all of the pumps

Interesting how he's jumped shipped. Just goes to show that there's REALLY something wrong with our pumps or at least something's wrong within the company itself which may have something to do with our bad pumps... Hope he gets hanged... :rocks: Sorry, that wasn't right... hope they ALL get hanged!!! hehehehehheee

Mine went bad about two weeks ago, I had 8800 miles on mine, but most of those miles were during teh winter when I had winter tires on her so I couldn't driver her hard, as soon as I started driving her really hard, she went limp within 1000 miles. She is a 06/06 build.

Will be waiting for 6 weeks...........
