The old guard...

Is it just me or have some of the "old guard" left the forum?

The regulars who have been on for a while will know the members that I am talking about.

I guess they've moved on to new metal and therefore new forums? Bit sad really as the UK forum really isn't the place it used to be...

It does seem quieter these days ,inevitable members come and go though.

I am sure there are others who would regularly contribute to the forum constructively or at the very least bring some reasoned arguments/debate/humour to topics.

I think as the life-cycle products passes through their various stages the forums dedicated to those products also change, usually for the worse.

Did wonder recently about Anneka, perhaps she has done her job so well of clearing up the Sytner messes that they don't need her anymore because the staff actually give decent customer service from the outset therefore no one has any reason to complain.

I PM'd Anneka a couple of weeks back when I was looking for a 1 Series. She doesn't post, it would seem, but is still contactable. In any event, it was a waste of time as Sytner's best offer on a 1er was ludicrously over the odds.

Forums move on. People get bored, change cars etc etc. The "old" guard vanished a long while back!

My theory on Sytner:

1. They got involved with the forum.

2. They enticed a more discerning clientèle (i.e. us) to use their services.

3. Said clientèle was dissatisfied with the service received.

4. It became too much hard work for them to keep us happy

5. They've bailed.

I'm just so glad that Anneka arranged the group buy on the Alpine Upgrade. It has saved me a fortune as I would have traded-in my car a long time ago if it still had the basic stereo. Now I find it hard to find a replacement BMW as so few cars have anything but the basic setup. I even test drove a Ford Focus ST-3 last weekend and it's stereo and DAB were superb. Unfortunately it had too many annoying rattles for my liking.

To be fair Anneka still replies to PMs and offers the servicing and parts discounts, etc.
Bit unfair to lay in to her / Sytner imo.

anyway. I agree it's quieter around here. Very quiet compared to 2 years ago.

I'll add SicKBaSS to the list of missing people. And frankly Viv and tony for that matter! I did post a where's SicKBaSS topic last year or early this year hah.

I don't think it's Anneka that's the issue, she's always done her utmost.

However, if Sytner are deciding to move away from forum relationships (which I'm not saying they are) then I was just giving my hypothesis as to why this may be the case.
