Burning oil help

I have jb4 and Ar dp and uuc exhaust and noticed I am burning oil (had to add some because I got a low oil warning) and the exhaust smokes and smells like burning oil. I noticed my bov has some oil coming out of the front of it. Do I need a occ or is the turbo leaking internally?

The oil coming out of the BOV is from blow-by, and is somewhat normal on these cars. If you only change your oil when the service notification comes on to take it to the dealer (around 12000-14000 mile interval), you will likely have to add at least a quart between changes (at least I know I do). I would just add the quart and monitor your the cars oil usage. An OCC may or may not help with the blow-by. There is a continuing discussion as to their effectiveness on the N54. Just keep an eye on things and if you don't have to add another quart in the next 5-7000 miles I would guess you are fine.

If it really throws oil from the exhaust it is something major. But some people have a tendency to over-react and the vague description in OP could also apply for normal condensation and someone being sniffing in the tail pipe. If you can see a massive cloud of smoke in the mirror when accelerating this is a good signal the engine has gone south.

Not a huge cloud of smoke kinda like when it is cold out and you press the gas. It does not always smoke but you can smell the burnt oil. If I take it to the dealer can I clear the codes and put the jb4 on 0 (factory setting) or should I remove the entire jb4 unit?

I just got the car and have driven about 5000miles. I just got the low oil Warning. So your saying a quart of burnt oil per 5k can be normal?

I'd take everything off if you going to the dealer for what sounds like blown ringlands. You could do a leak down test to figure it out.

Using jb4 I used maps 2 and 5 w 93 gas. Dci, dp, bov and jb4. Seems like maps 2 and 5 should be ok.

Did you check to see if there is any leak? I had a leak near the oil filter and i replaced it several months ago.

I just noticed the smoke the other day and the smell as well. Since smoke comes out of the exhaust my first thought was it is not a leak. I plan on looking for leaks after work today.

i get a little puff of smoke every once in a while if my car is on map 2 or 5 and has been sitting at idle for a few minutes, a bmw master tech told me it was because at idle the tune causes it to run a bit rich and once you start to take off it burns the fuel and then its back to normal, it has never happened to me unless it has been idling for a few minutes

Thanks. I put the tune to the factory setting and will see what it's like today. I appreciate the comment.

Looks like it's only coming from the drivers side exhaust. What does that mean?

Do you have divorced exhaust pipes? If so, it could be your front turbo bearing seal is leaking oil causing it to come out as smoke in that (driver's side) tail pipe. How many miles on the car and original turbos?

I'm having this problem too. Usually occurs when car is warmed up and sitting idle for a few minutes (like at a red light). I will also get some smoke out from under the hood too. After installing an OCC it has caused the issue to almost stop, havn't seen it in a month or so. I'll be taking the OCC off once I install my new turbos.

This makes sense. I have 40k on the car and turbos. I don't understand why a occ would stop the smoke or leak if it is your turbo bearing. BMW is replacing your turbos? Free?
