Intake Question

Hey Everyone,

I just recently bought a 2008 335XI sedan CPO and was looking into an intake. I see that AFE and Injen are the most used around the forum and was wondering if anyone has had any trouble voiding their warranty by adding an intake? When I went to pick up the car, I asked the dealer and they wouldnt give me a straight answer to whether it would cause warranty issues.

Also, does anyone prefer the AFE to Injen or vice versa for performance/sound differences? While the extra hp would be nice, I really want it for the sound and increased turbo noise. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I actually think the most popular intake is the BMS DCI. Its not as pretty as the others but does its job.

As for performance and sound all the intakes perform pretty much the same.

Thanks Mike.

Anyone hear of voiding or complicating the factory/CPO warranty by adding an intake?

They can easily refuse to work on your car, or even void a warranty, if you have engine related issues with an aftermarket intake. My dealer has zero tolerance for aftermarket intakes (although I can slip by with just about everything else).

As for power, without a tune and intake alone, you will not see significant gains in HP. A drop-in filter is probably your best bet, and you can switch it out in 30 seconds before you go into the dealer.

If you a really wanted performance, I highly suggest you look into making your own custom intake "Mr. 5" style:

You get the best of both worlds of DCI and CAI g(reater air volume + colder air). I got sick of my DCI's and decided to make a custom intake, it was very rewarding and turned out perfectly. I'll post another custom intake DIY in about 3 days if interested.

I agree. If you search I'm pretty sure you will find plenty of information. Some people will push DCI some will say there stock intake works best. If you aren't pushing your car to the limit with other bolt ons I don't think DCI is necessary just yet. Once you start pushing your car to the limit you might need less restriction, but for the most part Mr. 5 style intake is a good alternative for now with proven results. I am not saying DCI don't have proven results, but in the real world you are just breathing hot air.

+1

I'm currently acquiring parts for a Mr. 5 intake my self

The BMS DCI is probably the most popular by far, as Mike stated.
However I think all DCI's look real ugly and ricey (just my opinion, yours can be different) so I will be trying my best to make a Mr. 5 intake that looks as close to OEM as I can possibly make it.
