Pretty much a crap shoot man. Fit, finish, sound, weight, style of piping. I researched the hell out of it. A lot of them were cut from my list due to cutting and clamping to the stock exhaust. I want a full bolt on deal. I'm just about saved up to get my exhaust. Going with a HKS. However AMS makes a very light weight interesting exhaust. It was splitting hairs on those two for me.

It all comes down to personal preference. REMUS and Agency Power make some really good systems that are worth looking into.

Start with the Sticky at the top of the page:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10687

Then read this article by GrassRootsMS:
http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/art...ive-decisions/

Once done, do some more : but keep in mind, exhaust sound is a very subjective opinion. What one person considers "sick" might be too loud on anothers ears.

Keep in mind most people will tell you the best one is the exhaust the currently own and most vendors will tell you it's the one they sell. I looked at exhausts for months and finally chose AE cattless. Sound is very subjective so don't read into many people's opinions. What is not subjective are dyno numbers, weight, and 100's of positive reviews on fit and finish. I couldn't be happier with my choice.

I have the full HKS cat back exhaust. I believe it was around $1,600 shipped from Josh at excellerate.com. The exhaust was delivered with damage likely caused by Fed Ex handling it badly and one of the tips scrapped and it was picked up and new one came in 2 weeks later...that was my only negative.

The fit and finish is excellent, I would be lying if I said I didn't get it in part because of those blue tips out the back. HKS name and last but not least the sound on my auto 08 335i is outstanding before and after downpipes. Felt an increase in the butt dyno right away. Ive gotten alot of compliments on the exhaust both on sound and also on the mufflers which are all chrome at the back facing the ass end, I use never dull on these whenever I shine my wheels and especially at night when headlights reflect off them, it stands out. There are exhausts that cost more and less, but I would go HKS every time.

It seems that the HKS makes the most power primarily due to the H-Pipe design. Good fittment, good price also.

For those of you that have the HKS, how would you rate the sound?

Only one I might consider vs HKS is maybe AMS or Dinan. I actually like the fact Dinan offers it in black, and the regular silver one looks OEM. Polished exhaust is great, but a target for cops to pull you over. I'm still leaning toward HKS. Japs are smart. Fit and finish of a HKS product is usually pretty good.

We also use an H style merge on our exhaust system. The two pipes that come really close together in the middle are actually merged together.

I love the way it sounds.

Those mufflers look large. Any plans for an even more aggressive option down the line?

I can do one with no mufflers if you like We can put just resonators, the sky is the limit. We run a full time fabrication shop here. If there is a demand we can do it.

I've been very happy with my AMS exhaust. It's mean when you want it to be, otherwise it's nice an civilized when you don't want it to be.
