Turbos need to be replaced

I bought my 2007 335i coupe with 27.5k miles less than a month ago. The car now has 29.5k miles.

The other day I was driving and a message came up on the navi screen saying something along the lines of: Engine Malfunction. The power has been reduced.
Ok to drive. Drive with caution. Take to nearest BMW service center...

I took it to the shop figuring that the problem was the fuel pump and that it would be covered under the 100k warranty for that part. HOWEVER, apparently my turbos need to be replaced. The SA told me that the seal between the turbo and the wastegate is messed up. They said the parts would cost $2400 and the labor is $2500.

Their regional BMW USA rep stated that they would cover half of the parts which comes to a total cost of right under $3700. I called BMW NA to see if they could offer me any more assistance, but I doubt that will result in anything. The dealor said that they may be able to also offer me some assistance as well but I doubt that also will result in anything.

Does anyone have any advice? Is there anything else I can do? This really makes me feel like I should get rid of the car.

*****UPDATE*****
My SA at Richmond BMW called me today. The manager handling my "claim" at BMW of North America told me on 6/20 that she would call me in 1-3 days. She never did. The SA said they were supposed to call me but that he would just tell me what they came up with since I had yet to be contacted.

They said that BMW NA was now offering their labor price and hours for the job. I am guessing that this is basically what they are trying to say their costs are. This is in addition to the half off of parts that I was told previously.

Total Now = $2170 before tax

I am not sure whether to accept it or to try to see if I get a response from the letter I sent to BMW NA's VP of aftersales and their consumer relations department. Not to mention, I would like to see if they would be willing to sell me an extended warranty even though the car is currently not under warrenty due to the circumstances.

You could seek out used turbo's for less.

If you are into modifying cars and tuning you could also seek out upgraded turbo's too.

Not sure if your just trying to get back on the road or what?

I would turn this into a positive by swapping the stock snails out for some Helix or RB units.

The obvious question is why aren't they covering 100% of the parts and labor? Were you obviously modified? If so, I would prolly get the helix turbos if you are close enough for an install. Their price is nice.

I agree with you on that one. The car has not been modified at all. Nothing.

As far as the Helix turbos go, I see that it costs $3200 and is in PA. I am not even sure if I could drive the car up there to get it fixed. Not to mention, I am worried that such a major modification would make the car more difficult to sell whenever I decide to. This is my daily driver, so i am also concerned of creating more problems down the road. Honestly, with having such a large problem so early, I don't know how much I trust the engine with the stock turbos, let alone bigger ones. Let me know what you guys think.

I will look around for some used turbos and look into the Helix kit that some of these other guys mentioned. I really just want my car back and running. As I said in a previous post, this is my daily driver, so a huge concern to me is reliability. I need this thing to run and not have problems all the time.

they are raping u on the parts thats why they can cut u a discount. last time i check the turbos were 7xx on tischer. so with misc stuff it might be around 1600 for parts.

id be weary of used turbos. with your low milleage it obviously doesnt take much to kill them. also bmw redesigned the turbos a few times so you'd want the latest version with the stiffer wastegate.

That's a good point. Most of the used ones I found were higher mileage and not much cheaper anyway.

I mean, my original plan was to sell the car before it hits 100k miles. Now I am worried to keep it much longer than a year without a warranty.

Was this before you modded your car? Or did you take it in after the mods?

How is he going to do that when the car is defective? I had same issue and I just had my Turbos replaced 5 days before my warranty ran out. I have 28K miles and its an 07 bought and paid for and I am the original owner. It was driving like a pig even with the PROCede. They replaced wastegates, actuators etc only to later discover leaking solenoid and the same exact thing, wastegates wouldn't sit right on the seals, so they replaced the Turbos. Right now all the noise is gone, and it drives better and is more responsive in stock mode than it was on map 2. Now when I switch to map 2, it feels sureal. Didn't even realize how bad it was until ATS Motorsports owner drove it after LSD was installed at his shop, and told me shit the car has is worse than any stock 335 he had recently driven. That considering it is tuned with bolt ons. After they install new Turbos you will notice a huge difference. 07 stock Turbos are crap, BMW knows it, and I am not surprised they are offering to easy your pain for uncovered parts. The new Turbos installed are different but still Mitsubishi made.

Are these the newer style turbos that vase refered to, or the same exact version that my car had when it was built? I would much prefer to have the newer version ones that arent complete pieces of crap.
