General mileage on F10 530d

Hi all

I hope you guys could help me out on this as I am looking to upgrade from a 320d to possibly a F10 530d and would greatly appreciate it if you could give me some feedback on your general MPG in inner city driving, stop start traffic, A -roads, and some motorways etc.

Once again thanks in advance

Chris

well in my F11 530d i drive around with all the toys on permanently, daytime running lights (xenon type), air con blah blah blah and its average around town is 38.9 MPG which i'm pleased with considering its the "hearse" type 5-series as my so called work mates call it...rather than the lightweight saloon type! massive improvement in mpg when compared to same journeys in my old E92 330i that was getting more like 25-26 mpg

lots of stop start driving and short runs as well. on the m'way its more like 46-48 mpg or better if i stick to limits which is obviously all the time.....

Hmm - that's better than my 520d. Mind you, seems to be improving as it gets more run-in as it only just turned 1000 miles.

yeah guy i work with has a 520d and he said the same....maybe the bigger engine just doesn't have to work as hard? or there's a natural instinct in the 520d to want to drive it harder to see what it can do? I know when I test drove the 520d touring (only touring dealer had) i did find myself ragging it just for fun some of that is probably because its a test drive. i know the 520d was the sensible choice but i still went for the 530d...god knows why because the ironic thing is i drive it like an old woman most of the time....i don't feel the need to hammer it i just take comfort in knowing its quick if i need it to be but never use the power....god what have i done...that's 4K down the swannie....hope my wife is not reading this!

ps mileage on my is 5.5k....mpg definitely improved in last few thousand miles.

I'm not sure if the bigger-engine-not-working-as-hard scenario holds water - taking that to the logical extreme an M5 would be more economical. There might be something in it but neither engine is working particularly hard sitting on the motorway at 80mph.

done 1000 miles in the first week of ownership and seeing 43mpg average, but I do almost always drive in "sport" mode. 85% motorway miles.

615 miles from a full tank (66 litres).....

Thanks for all your feedback guys. I was also contemplating the 520d but I'm definitely swaying over to the 530d. How are you all finding the f10/f11? It looks awesome and hoping to join the band wagon soon!

I get 38mpg out of my 530d on a mix of country road and town commute but have had 45+ on a long run. 530d is a great engine though and really flies when you put your foot down whilst being ultra smooth.

I have 520d auto. Fit and finish is very good - i think its better value than 3 series. Most of my driving is in and around london and get around 17- 28 mpg on journey computer - average 30 - this is my biggest dissapointment - not even close to published figures.

After 9k miles I average 39 from my 535d, which includes bouts of enjoying the performance, when I get about 34, and long distance cruising which returns an easy 42. Quite amazing for a car that does 0-60 in less than 6 seconds!

As with previous posters. Since I've owned the car I'm getting 39.5 mpg.
On motorway I can average 80mph and still return 42mpg. Even better is the power delivery it's a really seamless quick acceleration to licence losing speeds
caution is advised.

I've had my car a couple of months now it's got 10k on the clock, and I get around 44mpg doing mostly motorway driving at average outside lane speeds.

I did an economy run when I first got the car and it averaged 51mpg over 200 miles.

10k miles in a couple of months!!! Wow, that's some motoring and it sure beats my 12k miles per year.

Ah, that explains it; otherwise you'd have been doing over 160 miles every single day.
Those are very good mpg figures, which go to show that the original owner took the trouble to observe the correct break-in procedure.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the 530d - it's a very good car, but having driven both, I'm extremely pleased that I ran to the extra cash for the 535d - that extra turbo makes such a difference and I find it to run just a bit smoother, with a lovely low-end rumble every time you give it some half serious throttle.
Both are terrific engines, but the dual turbo unit most definitely has a significant edge.

just thought I'd drop in that the F10 brochure says output and consumption measured using 98RON fuel. Also says 95RON recommended and 91RON minimum.

I assume not in Diesels []
And for the golfers among us that is 91 RON not your 9 Iron.....
