Track Question-- How to Number Car??

Hey everyone... I am going with my friend and his Carrera to the Porsche club's track day this weekend in the Pocono's. They are telling him that he needs to put a number on his car... how do we go about doing that? Tape would fall off...someone said something about shoe polish? Please help!!!

Thanks!!

Go to auto zone they make special window marking paint that comes off easily.. Or they make car chalk spray which is fun to draw immature things on friends cars lol.

Use the blue painters masking tape, it peels off easily and is also great to tape up the cone-vulnerable parts of the car for auto-x.

Painters tape is your best bet. It peels of easily without leaving any residue and you can tape up your front lip..bumper..etc as well. Another option is the white shoe polish. Its pretty hard to take off, you can't just wipe it with a towel, you will need to get some kind of solvent to wipe it off. If you try to wipe it off with a towel, all you will do is smear the white polish all over your car.

hope this helps

Sounds like fun! I think the painter's tape would work well.

During an open track event, I've witnessed organizers shoe-polished the numbers on every car, since the vehicles number is determined then.

During a closed (organized) event, you are already issued a number for the entire season and the vehicle owner is responsible for their own decal.

I would use vinyl tape...similar to what they use to put racing stripes on.

No just do it with the 3M Paints Tape. Everybody that comes to PDA performance driving school we make them use the tape, so it doesn't peel off in the track, and it doesn't screw up the paint.

I have seen somebody spray paint the number on the car, and then thought it was gonna come out with water....HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE!!!!

I used to use good old shoe polish on the window. True if you try to wipe it off, it will go everywhere. However, if you lightly spray it with windex you can use a razor to smoothly scrape it off.

Tape does work great and it doesn't fall off. Not even on bikes going MUCH faster... It works like a charm and is easy to work with.

Not to mention if you get creative you can cut out shapes and Numbers Etc.

White shoe polish on the window though is standard as well. Works great and scrapes off with a razor blade.

I made up some magnetic ones from when I autocrossed alot back in 2000-2001. I have used blue painters tape on a number of occasions...and I have used shoe polish on two or three occasions.

Just put it on the window. Then there's no issue with the paint and it's simple to remove.

painter's tape. And as far as placement goes, you need to follow the guidelines of the club you're running with (can be combination of door/roof/rear window etc). Enjoy the event!

some events provide the numbers- little vinyl ones that peel right off.

painters tape or vinyl would be your best bet. vinyl would hold up better if you're expecting rain.

everyone is over thinking this. get a bar of soap and write it on the window. Make sure it's dry when you do this

(this is how they do it at my track when you register)
