They are! Still massively tempted by one! Have a macbook air 11" but the ipad is much easier to use while standing and commuting!
Purchasing one Carlos? |

iPad 2 is lighter, thinner and faster, so if you're using it on the move or editing power hungry docs then yes it is better... But failing that, No! |

Get one. I rarely use my laptop.
Ipad2 as stated above faster, thinner and lighter. Therefore lots of deals on used relatively new ipad1's. If you want to use it on the go you might not need the 3G version (thereby saving £100) as many phones can be tethered to the iPad to share their 3G connection. |

If I didn't have to install iTunes to use one I would buy one tomorrow.

Seen that and am watching with interest however am concerned that iTunes will just move to the cloud (or Microsoft Azure platform if you believe the reports) and nothing much will change.

On mine now. Love it. Mac has become all but redundant for surfing duties at home.

Only had my iPad2 since Thursday and typing this on it whilst watching The Pacific.
Initially sceptical about the hype, but it really is brilliant, and my 4 yo daughter is already a big fan of the iPlayer app and the ability to watch cBeebies on demand anywhere in the house! Also, think it's going to be a godsend on flights with her. |

I would buy one from Three, I paid £149 for the 32gig iPad 3g and then £20 a month for 2 years contract.
So around £20 more than just buying the iPad from Apple plus I have data for 2 years. Love the iPad and really impressed with 3 as well, so much so I am swapping all my phones at work over to them. Never lost a 3g signal yet and travel all over the country. |

I was getting dicked about by the agent that handles our mobile telecoms;
I demanded an iPad 2 as compensation for micromanaging an account that they should have been. Amazingly enough they actually did, without argument. Had it 4 weeks so far and it's brilliant.

Capacity aside there are two types of iPad; wifi or wifi and 3G.
Wifi models will only connect to the great outdoors via a wireless Internet connection (or via iPhone tethering, which you need to activate via your telecoms service provider) Wifi and 3G models use the same wifi technology but also have a sim card that allows mobile data in the same way your iPhone works. These are supplied on a contract basis, just like a pay-monthly phone.

How well, if at all, can the ipad2 handle MS files - Word/Excel etc?
The whole company is old school MS, but looking at one as a laptop replacement in the field. Steve

It handles, emails word and excel very well. I use it for work as well.
Although I have a wifi and 3g ipad, if you have an iphone most of the mobile networks are now doing personal hotspot for free which means your ipad (and 4 other devices) can all connect through your iphone and use its data tarriff THought I would mention it incase it saves folk some cash |

Dont get me wrong they are great for games, pictures, and mulitmedia but i would NEVER replace my lappy with one.
They are too cumbersome to hold all the time and try and type (granted there are periphs that you can add like keyboards etc) you are constantly re-sizing the web pages to see content (great when you want to get a close up, but pain in everyday browsing) My daughter benefits mainly from it with the games for kids and installing films/cartoons, in the car on long journeys, absolute god send in that sense. Great for being on the move, like of you are on the road and need to look at something real quick without needing to boot the laptop. But never would replace my lappy with it. |
