BEWARE?? AMS FMIC Problem

Weather got hot last week and turned on the A/C. 15 min later no cold air and still sweating balls. no problem, figure it's just a warranty fix. Dealership calls me and tells me my FMIC piping has been rubbing against the A/C lines and burned a hole right through it? 989+tax to fix (obviously wont fix it @ dealership), but wtf? Is this an install problem? I dont see how else you can install it differently...anybody see anything similar?

Shiit. Take it to a welder and have them put a small weld on the hole of your AC line. Then see if you can adjust your intercooler pipes.

it looks more like the placement of the hose clamp was the problem not the actual tube off the fmic.

That's pretty thin aluminum.

You'd need a skilled TIG welder to deal with that.

Appears to be right next to the DV at the top, I see his are capped off for a BOV.

+1 Worm clamp was definately rubbing.

another option would be if you know any place that does a/c work, have them make you another line and reroute it somewhere safe

just replace the line, recharge the ac, and make sure the screw clamping edge of the clamp is opposite the line, it could be the angle of the picture, but it looks like there is a few mm of space between the tube and the ac hose

I had the AMS for about 6 months and I do not see any issue. Like people mentioned here, maybe the clamp was rubbing against the pipe for a long period of time to produce the damaged?
How long you had it installed?

Shit. Had an issue during a long drive last week with little/no cold air as well, though i've got the ETS fmic. wonder if it's a similar issue/installation related......

You may be right, have not taken a good look at the car myself, this is a pic my SA snapped for me at the dealership and car is still there.

I think at this point instead of replacing the line my other mechanic is going to weld it for me and then reinforce it with aluminum + wrap. He will pressure test the system afterwards. This may be a better alternative to prevent smth like this happening again...unless anyone sees anything negative with it? Welding is a stronger/better alternative, i've heard not alot of shops will do it for you because it takes longer and they make less.

Let this be a heads up to any of you guys out there to ensure there's no rubbing.

Also, when he recharges it he plans to use redtek, anyone have any experience/heard of it?

hey op, get a new tube/hose for the ac, don't chance welding it, its not worth the labor down the road if it decides to leak slowly and you need a new hose and recharge
