N54 engine Query
Hi,
I was reading the below on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N54 In the table am i correct in sayign that it states N54 engine in 2006, 2008,2010 produce different stock BHP's? Surely that can't be correct. Should'nt they all be producing the same amount of power from factory? |

No, its saying there are 3 different states of tune available with the N54 engine, and giving the introduction date of each.
The 306bhp variant was first introduced in 2006 and was available on the 335i and 135i. The 326bhp variant was first introduced in 2008 and is available in different models, ie the F01 740i, SDrive35iS Z4, etc. The 335bhp variant appeared in 2010 on the US only 335iS. |

That is when efficient dynamics were introduced to the 3 series range. For the 335i this only involved regenerative braking and shift indicator I believe - no changes to the engine. Other variants got stop / start technology too.

Yes, the 335iS is a current model and is only available in North America. It has NEVER been a UK car and neither is it a discontinued model, it was first released in 2010 after the introduction of the N55 so its a point of note that it still retains an N54.

You forgot to mention that Alpina also use the N54 engine in the B3 and modify this to 360bhp and 400bhp for the B3s!
