Talking Driving in circles at 100mph

Finally got around to digging through the pics from our trip to NC for the www.BRBS.org event I help organize (used to own a Boxster S) .. we hit Bristol speedway again and had a blast.. its a short track so just barely hit 100 before the next bank.. we got to run about 20 laps.. some pics ..

Awesome. I'm quite jealous. How crazy was the banking? Seats hold you in fine?

No helmets? And convertibles without rollcages? I didn't think you could do either of those on an autocross, let alone on a track... just wondering. (I'm jealous, I've never done a track)

Nah, all good friends there.. my 9th year with this group.. rule with the BRBS is once you come with a Boxster you can always come with whatever you have.. Many have moved on from their Boxster to Carreras or non-Porsche cars but still come.. With the JB3, it held up just fine.. kept up just fine in the twisties on 226A as well http://www.diamondbacknc.com/ .. surprisingly no limp mode considering no oil cooler but closed in on 300 after some long runs around the 226a loop.. but it was pretty warm down there that week

Depends on who's running the event. Helmets are a must for all BMW CCA events at high speed on track, and no convertibles allowed. Audi Car Club allows convertibles as long as they pass the "broomstick" test. Other groups like PCA allow convertibles as long as they have the factory rollover protection. I suspect that this "Blue Ridge Boxster Summit" group just hasn't gotten around to having lawyers involved, or maybe they have very strict rules like no passing.

plenty of lawyers in the group.. but yes, there were rules, including no passing.. there were really only a dozen cars or so even capable of or willing to hit 100 on that short track and only for a very brief moment before slowing into the next bank.. no one was 'racing' .. just going around in small groups at a time so it was spaced out enough to punch it on the straights.. all in all pretty safe driving compared to ripping down the DiamondBack (226A) full of hair pin turns twisties with 100-200 ft drop offs down a mountain side with only occasional guard rails
