N54 pre/post valve clean mileage numbers?
Guys
I've read through some of the posts in regards to cleaning the valves, and how most note a pick up in performance, I have however, not seen much data on what kind of mileage those same people are seeing pre/post job. I just recently picked my car up, but being a somewhat involved owner, I am curious to know the results. My 335i is approaching 100k miles, however, it still feels like it does well. The car was owned by a lady previously, so aside from any factory maintenance, the car has been untouched. Over the last few weeks I have been monitoring the fuel mileage, and most recently, I came back from St Louis to Peoria and monitored the data. I stopped at the gas station leaving my friends house, filled up, reset the mpg average, and headed for home. The results shortly after pulling in the drive and setting the parking brake The car is all stock, oem tires, etc I am curious if really getting in there for the valve job is going to net me any beneficial results.... Obviously, for documentation purposes, getting it on the dyno would be the next step as well in providing the right data. Thoughts?

My average did increase 3-5mpg after the valves cleaned up. If your car never been tuned before, cleaning the valves won't hurt at all. I guarantee your mpg will go up but your mileage might vary!

Fortunately for me, Illinois roads (central anyways) are rather flat (and consequently dull) so they provide for some consistency, but I do see your point. As an added data point, the drive home from the initial purchase (Indianapolis to Peoria) netted 28.9mpg

After the valves job, my mpg indicated between 26-31 mpg on the high way. Local is a different story.

I also should note (and unfamiliar enough with these cars to know the difference yet) that this car is a 6spd
And a second note - this was at a fixed 75mph through a majority of the trip

a true 75 or what the speedo says?. our speedos are set to be 3-5 mph slower than what you are actually going.
