Car won't start. Need to replace starter.
My car: 2006 / e90 / 330i.
So, I took it to the dealership and they told me it's the starter. The labor alone is ridiculous. I can't afford it as I've already been to the dealer a number of times this year. The amount I've paid alone over the past 6 months is crazy (replaced unit to recognize key, both catalytic converters, sound/bluetooth system, regular maintenance… brakes). The dealer told me they have take out a bunch of stuff just to install the starter.. remove manifolds and all this crap totaling up to just under $2k..WTF? really? I just spent $1300 on replacing my sound unit last week… I want to know if there are any recommendations in replacing the starter? Where I can go to? or what can i do… i can't afford this.. it's a pretty tight time for me these next 3-4months. Any help is appreciated… I'll be making calls today as I'd like to have the car by the weekend Thanks in advance. |

It's not that bad a diy....you remove the upper/lower microfilter housings, intake, tension strut, ignition coil cover, and intake manifold.
Then you have access to the starter. It sounds like alot but it's pretty straight forward. |

Found a place in brookln.. less than half the price overall. Plus all less than the labor alone. SMH… I hope I never have to pay for labor at the dealership ever… wish I new the rules of CPO from the very jump.
Anyway, everyone… thank you for your responses. |

dealers 125 an hour labor really kills the price of any work they need to do. Good luck finding an affordable place to do the work

+1 on the labor, it takes more time getting there than the actual work of replacing it.
