Rattling Exhaust Sound

Hey guys my 335i is just a hundred miles shy of 30K and I've been noticing an increasing loud clicking/rattling/clanking metal noise that seems to be coming from my factory exhaust. I thought maybe it had to do with the butterfly valve? But I'm not sure at all. I was reading up and I found something about a wastegate actuator failure? Does anyone have any information or past experiences? Anything helps. Thanks in advance!

Yeah it really could be the exhaust. When my valve went bad it was most noticeable on a cold start. You just had to start the car cold and let it sit until the idle clicked down to a lower rpm. Sounded like someone was rattling a can of nickels back in the left tip. Dealer replaced the exhaust, then I disabled the valve

Unplug the solenoid for the valve in the drivers side taillight access panel. Should fix the issue.

Note that unplugging it will not "fix" the issue by any means. If that valve rattling is actually your problem, disabling it will make it so the valve doesnt work and you wont hear it - but it will still be broken. If youre still under warranty (seems like you should be) and you want it to be fixed properly, just take it in.

THEN, after it gets fixed, disable the valve. Exhaust sounds better that way

What is it supposed to do originally? What is it's function?

I had the same sound coming out of my exhaust so I took it to the dealership. They replaced the muffler and now its fixed.

Valve in the left exhaust is bad. Muffler will need to be replaced. Take it in if you're under warranty, or disable the valve if you're not.

got first muffler replacement a few months after I picked up the car...just dropped it off at the dealers today for the exact same reason (after 11 months owning the car). The technician told me that he shouldnt be advising that but plugging the actuator out will probably fix it. Needless to say I will not be sattisfied with such solution...
